List (what YOU think) are the top 10 public universities in the nation.

Michigan, Berkley, UT-Austin, North Carolina, Georgia, UCLA, Ohio State, Texas A&M, Indiana U, Univ. Illinois

1 University of California-Berkeley

1 University of Michigan-Ann Arbor

1 University of Virginia

4 University of California-Los Angeles

4 University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill

6 College of William and Mary

6 University of Texas-Austin

6 University of Wisconsin-Madison

9 University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign

10 Georgia Institute of Technology

oh i forgot, try to do it in order too!

I would replace Georgia Tech with U of Washington (tied with UIUC at #9). GeorgeTech is just too one-dimensional.

^^Yeah I agree with you. Also I would replace Austin with UC San Diego. It seems like Berkeley and LA overshadow the rest of the UC schools. Even though the rest of the schools may not be the best in the system. They certainly beat many other state's flagship schools

Ten years from now here is my prediction:

Berkeley

UCLA

UVA

Michigan

UNC

Texas

Washington

William & Mary

Georgia Tech

Florida

UCSD

Wisconsin

personally my top 5 would be: berkeley, uva, unc, michigan, ucla

UVA, UNC, UCLA, UCSD, Georgia Tech, Florida, W&M, Michigan, UCB, Wisconsin, SUNY Buffalo, Penn St., Pitt

SUNY Buffalo?? I'd rather have Oklahoma haha

I thought among the SUNY schools, Binghamton is the best overall, and Stony Brook is best for science and engineering.

Techie1988, I think Geneseo is the best SUNY school

Buffalo is best for engineering by far. They also got a good finance program. I am not applying to SUNY but i know its a common fact up here. Also top medical program in SUNY, they are closely associated with Roswell Park, which is like top 5 cancer research center in the world. Binghamton is the liberal arts version of the system. Buffalo has better resources to take advantage of. Stony Brook is run down and deteriorated, the majority of resources in NY state go to Buffalo, then Genny, then Bing.

Geneseo is basically the honors program, but more opportunities are to be had at Buffalo in my mind because of its connections. I would rather kill myself than go to Oklahoma, most boring state in the country.

GeorgeTech is just too one-dimensional.

Yeah being in the top 10 for publics in every STEM field is really one-dimensional :-P. Maybe you consider that a narrow area though. Sure there isn't a major for southeast african studies and liberal arts classes may have some technology component, but all those fields the talking heads say need more people to ensure future success are what GT excels at.

Who can say what will be ten years from now? If some of these public schools don't work on their endowments, they could be in big trouble. California is currently going though a major financial crisis as it is.

Undergraduate:

Berkeley
Michigan
UVA
UCLA
UNC
UCSD
William & Mary
Wisconsin
Illinois
Texas

Graduate (overall):

Berkeley
Michigan
UCLA
UCSD
Wisconsin
Texas
Washington
Illinois
Minnesota
UNC

Excellent list Techie1988. I concur.

1.UC Berkeley
2.UVA
3.UCLA
4.UMich
5.UNC
6.Penn State
7.Georgia Tech
8.SUNY Binghamton
9.UCSD
10.Washington

In terms of undergraduate education, this is my opinion

UNC-Chapel Hill
William & Mary
UVA
Michigan
UC-Berkeley
Washington
Pittsburgh
UCLA

I see Clemson rising up in the rankings too over the next few years.
Also, there are several great public LAC type colleges: St. Mary's College Of Maryland, New College Of Florida, TCNJ and SUNY Geneseo
