did you forget mudd?

No, I did not forget Mudd. I was only listing research universities. If I did, a couple of LACs wouldmake the honorable mention. I also forgot to add Rice. Rice definitely makes the honorable mention.

Because I'd rather go to Harvard than UIUC/Mich/Purdue? Who cares if their engineering sucks.

I guess you are one of those who like engineering intellectually but rather work in i-banking. If so, Harvard would be a good choice.

But if you really want to work in engineering and the technical field, you'd better go with UIUC/Mich/Purdue.

Alexandre,

Can you explain what makes UIUC such a highly rated program? It's not apparent from visiting the school? I understand that places like CalTech, Stanford, and MIT are very exclusive, but Illinois is not. Yet it gets high regard from some and little respect from others. As a parent trying to understand the differences between schools, I'd love some insight.

When it comes to Engineering, you will be hard pressed to find anybody who doesn't respect UIUC highly. Exclusivity and quality aren't always related. The quality of UIUC engineering students is impressive to say the least, and its faculty is second-to-none. Over the years, the UIUC has established itself as the MIT of the Midwest, and since schools like Michigan, Northwestern, Purdue and Wisconsin are midwestern too, I'd say that UIUC truly is a worthy Engineering program.

Thanks for the responses.

Toss in Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for good measure.
