Top 10 State Schools.

Just Curious, but what do you think the top ten state schools are?

I think the top five is pretty much established, but I wonder what you think the other top schools are.

My top ten would be something like:

1)Virginia
2)Cal Berkeley
3)North Carolina
4)UCLA
5)Michigan
6)Wisconsin-Madison
7)Georgia Tech
8)Texas
9)Washington
10)Penn State

I’d remove Georgia Tech from the top 10 and put William & Mary in at #6.

RonPaul,

In what way is UVa superior to Cal (and probably UMich too)?

All three are great schools, and you couldn’t go wrong with either, but I just like the more conservative tinge at UVA and they have better programs in the areas I am interested in. I also like the location of UVA over Cal. It really is a matter of opinion when schools are that good.

W&M is a top school, but it doesn’t feel like a “state” school to me. Although it happens to be public, it feels much more like a private school.

your top five is wrong if you have UM at #5.

UC Berkeley

(tie) UCLA

(tie) Michigan

Virginia

North Carolina

William & Mary

Wisconsin

UIUC

Georgia Tech
10 U Washington

( In no particular order)
Few are:
University of California- Berkeley
University of California- Los Angeles
University of Virginia
University of Michigan- Ann Arbor
University of Wisconsin- Madison
University of Washington- Seattle
Pennsylvania State University- University Park
Michigan State University
University of Minnesota- Twin Cities
Ohio State University

Berkeley

UNC

UVA

Michigan

W&M

UCLA

Wisconsin

GT

UIUC

Florida

Top 10 (No real order)

Berkeley
UCLA
Michigan
UNC
UVA
Wisconsin
W&M
Texas
Washington
Georgia Tech

Honorable Mention:

UIUC, Florida, Penn State

1) Virginia
2) Cal Berkeley
3) Michigan (tie)
3) North Carolina (tie)
3) UCLA (tie)
6) George Tech
7) Penn State
8) Wisconsin-Madison
9) Florida
10)Texas

Just on the outside looking in Rutgers, UConn, UWash. I didn’t include William and Mary simply because I think it is apples and oranges comparing universities to colleges.

I would squeeze UIUC into the top 10.

"I didn’t include William and Mary simply because I think it is apples and oranges comparing universities to colleges. "

That’s what I felt.

Berkeley

LA

Michigan

Virginia

Wisconsin

North Carolina

UCSD

Washington

UC Davis

UC Santa Barbara

Agreed, and an overlook on my part. I’d slot them tied with Wisconsin.

Florida belongs nowhere near this list.

Berkeley
UCLA (2)
Michigan (2)
Virginia (2)
Wisconsin
North Carolina
Texas
Illinois
Washington
UC San Diego

RonPaul_2012. Just curious, what programs are you interested in at UVA?

By median SAT (from princetonreview, so probably a year old):

William & Mary (1350)

Cal/Berkeley (1345)

Georgia Tech (1335)

SUNY Geneseo (1325)

UMichigan (1320)

UCSD (1315)

UVA (1310)

UCLA (1305)

UNC (1305)

UIllinois (1290)

Other notables discussed:
UMaryland (1275), Penn St. (1195), UWashington (1205), UTexas (1240), UWisconsin (1280), SUNY Binghamton (1265), UFlorida (1250)

Geneseo is up over 1350 this year and Binghamton is just over 1300.

As long as Berkeley, UCLA, UVA, Michigan, and North Carolina are top 5 is all I really care about.

I think Cal, UCLA, UVA, Michigan and UNC are top 5 BUT I think a serious case can be made for Wisconsin. I know I would opt for Wisconsin over UNC all things being equal.
