Top things to know about Berkeley to make your life less miserable
- Bring an extra bed, lots of sweaters, and a sturdy umbrella
- The best way to avoid being handed a useless flyer is to smile and walk away. Do not stand and chat or allow them to chat you up as you walk to class
- Know where clean restrooms are next to your classes
- Do laundry Friday nights
- Waitlist students taking your seats during first 2 weeks of class. Just be patient
- Don’t bet on the Bears to beat the Ducks this year
- For 8am classes threaten to kill your roommate (floormates) if you don’t get peace and quite at night

Note: These are just broad generalizations, so don’t bristle too much and are in no particular order.

Top Ten Good:
- Upper division classes are the absolute ish. Even the ‘bad’ ones are pretty awesome.
- Decent to Great Football team, makes for a great distraction on the weekends.
- Accessible profs and instructors, especially in the upper divs. Profs are especially brilliant higher up.
- Research Opportunities.
- Solid greek system balanced by a solid co-op system, so ample social opportunities in that regard.
- You are right next to SF, Oakland, and a bunch of other neat places.
- Interesting alternative type town.
- Tons of special interest clubs. Something for everyone.
- Almost all departments are in the top 5. If they aren’t top 5, certainly top 10.
- Lots of liberals.

Top Ten Bad:
- Students, for being bright, can be disappointing intellectually. Many seem to be there just for the degree and not really to expand their minds, or they flat out don’t care.
- Lower div classes. Many are good, even more are absolutely horrendous.
- Telebears.
- Dorm Food.
- Dorms in general.
- Limited social opportunities for people under 21 if you don’t have connections or aren’t into partying. The area in general seems to favor older undergrads, graduates, and party types.
- Dating opportunities are somewhat lacking, others can disagree, but you get really busy and hook up culture seems to predominate.
- Limited access to necessary courses. The fact any major at a top university is impacted.
- Grade deflation (at least when I was there.)
- Lots of liberals.
