<p>Top things to know about Berkeley to make your life less miserable

  1. Bring an extra bed, lots of sweaters, and a sturdy umbrella
  2. The best way to avoid being handed a useless flyer is to smile and walk away. Do not stand and chat or allow them to chat you up as you walk to class
  3. Know where clean restrooms are next to your classes
  4. Do laundry Friday nights
  5. Waitlist students taking your seats during first 2 weeks of class. Just be patient
  6. Don’t bet on the Bears to beat the Ducks this year
  7. For 8am classes threaten to kill your roommate (floormates) if you don’t get peace and quite at night</p>

<p>Note: These are just broad generalizations, so don’t bristle too much and are in no particular order.</p>

<p>Top Ten Good:

  1. Upper division classes are the absolute ish. Even the ‘bad’ ones are pretty awesome.
  2. Decent to Great Football team, makes for a great distraction on the weekends.
  3. Accessible profs and instructors, especially in the upper divs. Profs are especially brilliant higher up.
  4. Research Opportunities.
  5. Solid greek system balanced by a solid co-op system, so ample social opportunities in that regard.
  6. You are right next to SF, Oakland, and a bunch of other neat places.
  7. Interesting alternative type town.
  8. Tons of special interest clubs. Something for everyone.
  9. Almost all departments are in the top 5. If they aren’t top 5, certainly top 10.
  10. Lots of liberals.</p>

<p>Top Ten Bad:

  1. Students, for being bright, can be disappointing intellectually. Many seem to be there just for the degree and not really to expand their minds, or they flat out don’t care.
  2. Lower div classes. Many are good, even more are absolutely horrendous.
  3. Telebears.
  4. Dorm Food.
  5. Dorms in general.
  6. Limited social opportunities for people under 21 if you don’t have connections or aren’t into partying. The area in general seems to favor older undergrads, graduates, and party types.
  7. Dating opportunities are somewhat lacking, others can disagree, but you get really busy and hook up culture seems to predominate.
  8. Limited access to necessary courses. The fact any major at a top university is impacted.
  9. Grade deflation (at least when I was there.)
  10. Lots of liberals.</p>

<p>I’m an incoming freshman and applying to Haas after 2 years (the undergrad program)…how bad is cheating before even applying to haas?</p>

<p>Wearing red, which is the school color of the junior college across the bay, can be frowned upon particularly on big game days.</p>

<p>^This is particularly important if you’re a girl since guys will holler at you until you take it off.</p>
