@ OP: By colleges, do you mean only national universities, or do you want us to compare LAC’s to national universities and make some sort of rough top 20?

HYPSM, Columbia, Brown, Dartmouth, Penn, Cornell, Caltech, Chicago, Duke, Williams, Amherst, Berkeley, UVA, Michigan, Northwestern, NYU.

It’s subjective and a lot of it depends on your major.

HYPSM + the other five ivies + Chicago, Duke, NorthWestern, JHU, Georgetown, Emory, Vanderbilt, Berkeley, Rice, Washington U.

Caltech is small so I didn’t count it.

^ Wustl? Really? -_-

^People here have seem to have a bit of a WUSTL fetish. I know it’s a good school, but still…

^ Wustl is so overrated. They play the admissions game so much, it’s sickening.

I’m wondering why people are so against WUSTL here. Is it because they WL too much people here? But you can’t deny it’s a great school with great academia.

^ It’s alright academically, but it’s not amazing. IMO, it’s completely overrated.

WUSTL does not belong on a list of the top 20 COLLEGES (not national universities - undergraduate colleges) in the nation. Neither, for that matter, does UMich. I know they’re good, but seriously people. WUSTL over Swarthmore? UMich over Pomona? Really?

Okay, lets not get carried away. I think WUSTL is a top 20 school but I think it belongs at around 19-20. Not higher. They do game the system while others like Emory (my future school) seem to go out of their way to not make themselves known.

Anyways, top 20 schools include: (not including LACs)

HYPSM, other Ivies, U Chicago, Emory, Northwestern, Vandy, Duke, Wash U, Rice, Tufts (I think its terribly underrated).

How is wustl a T20 school. I mean, really? I don’t see a lot of redeeming undergrad qualities that one couldn’t find at another, say, t50 school…

I’ve been wondering for awhile what WUSTL stands for. WUSTL, WUSTL, WUSTL … I still can’t figure it out. Sorry to be so dense.

^ Umm, because its much richer (often leads to better facilities) than most top 50 universities… its entering student body is stronger than most of the top 50 schools… it has some great programs especially for those in the pre med track… I don’t usually defend WUSTL but comparing it to any top 50 universities seems a bit out there… honestly, I think the weakest top 20 USNEWS university is Notre Dame and not WUSTL.

^ Dude, no. WUSTL wouldn’t be IN the T20 if they didn’t spam people and waitlist the hell out of applicants that are overqualified…

Lol, LAC bias much, future Carleton? (Btw, I agree with you. But a lot of people wouldn’t.)

"waitlist the hell out of applicants that are overqualified… "

can u prove ur statement? otherwise you’re just a naive hater.

^ LOL, I’m not a hater. Look it up. WUSTL waitlists a HUGE amount of its applicant pool. They spam you with their mail to get the applications, and sometimes waitlist people who they believe will matriculate to a better school. Tuft’s Syndrome - look it up. -_-

^^ Really? Where did you hear that? From ppl who got waitlisted and felt bitter abt it? I dont think those who were waitlisted were overqualified at all. Have you compared the average test scores and GPA of those who got in and those who were waitlisted? If the former’s is lower then yes, it might be the case. But when I met those prefrosh who came to WashU last week, at least 4 outa 5 ppl got into an ivy…and it’s not just the lower ones. Also, do you think that it’s hard to find students at Harvard who got rejected by Northwestern, Duke, UChicago, or Johns Hopkins? I dont think so.
