here's an interesting scattergram, although it is for Arcadia High School, a public high school in california. click on each individual school to see applicants graphed by GPA/SAT and whether they were accepted, rejected, or if they matriculated.

very nice kfc4u.......haven't seen any web info this detailed yet. Very complete list. A quick perusal shows you that it truly is a roll of the dice especially for some competive institutions, and that things other than GPA and SATs are at play.

P Chickie...You've changed the framework since post #80. You are now listing Ivy, SWAP ++ --PLUS Top 20. Can you go back and re-calculate the list from #80--with and without the top 20? Ranked with the newbies? In your spare time?

cheers-- not exactly sure what you mean, but upon hindsight reading of my calculation description, seems that I could do better, so here goes.....

First, for each school, I added up the number of Ivy + Stanford + MIT + SWAP matriculants WITHIN the school's Top 20 list.....this is the numerator to the "%Ivy/SM/SWAP" calculation. Keep in mind that those lists may represent multiple years. Then I calculated the denominator as [class size x numbers of years reported]. The resulting [# of Ivy etc matriculants in Top 20] / [class size x numbers of years reported] was multiplied by 100 to yield a percentage.

I calculated this stat this way out of sheer convenience to reduce my calculation burden. For schools with Ivy etc matriculants NOT within the Top 20, the stat I use will underrepresent the true Ivy etc share because the Ivy etc matriculants are not counted in the numerator but are counted in the denominator.......such is life, but I figured this stat would still be close enough to facilitate gross comparisons across the schools studied.

I used this claculation methodology for the summary tables in post 80, as well as for every individual school I have posted thereafter...at least I think I did.....please point out if you see something to the contrary.
