I am an Asian female international student, and just checked my May 3rd SAT scores. Disappointed :( ... I am considering registering for the June SAT, and would like some advices as to whether or not I should register for the upcoming SAT test! 1st choice: SAT II Biology in June instead of SAT I, SAT II Chemistry and Math Level II in October. 2nd choice: SAT 1 in June and take SAT II Biology, Chemistry and Math Level 2 in October.

Here are my stats

1st SAT:
- 680 CR 670 MATH 660 WRITING
2nd SAT:
- 660 CR 700 MATH 660 WRITING
G.P.A.:
- Around 3.6 out of 4.4
Full diploma I.B. student:
- Math HL, Bio. HL, Chem. HL
- French SL, Lang. and Lit SL, Bus. SL
Clubs and Charities:
- Part of Red Crescent charity club, Global Network charity club, Dance club, Badminton club
- President of MSF charity club
- Teach kids with English as 2nd language every Saturday for 2 hours

As you can see, my stats are not very impressive. Should I take the SAT I again in order to boost up my stats? Or would focusing on getting high scores for my SAT IIs be a better choice? I am considering to apply to top 20 U.S. universities. Would anyone kindly give me an estimate of my chances/ suggest what I should do to get in universities of such a rank considering my current stats?

Many thanks for taking the time to read my post! :)

Your SATs are indeed a bit low.
You need to retake and get >700 on each section and a 2200 overall to be competative for the sort of schools you’re talking about.

Thank you for commenting, @Soze !
I’ve heard from a couple of friends that SAT I individual sections have to be >700 too I was hoping that that isn’t always the case, but I guess not! Thanks for your comment. I think I might register for the June SAT I instead of SAT II Biology then, cheers!

Depends upon what you define as Top 20 university.
Go to college data dot com for specifics as each college is different. You need to be above the 25th percentile for SAT score. You have weak EC’s and borderline GPA so you probably need to be at 50th percentile with your SAT score (at least) for your targeted college.

Top 20 seems like a huge reach tbh with your gpa and EC’s not being that strong along with your sat. Being an Asian and an international student, standards (and costs) will be much higher for you as well. Still apply for some as you never know but concentrate your efforts upon other schools. Also, as many (most perhaps) students find the act easier consider taking that if it is available for you as an option.

Thank you @theanaconda Unfortunately ACT is not a choice for me, I can’t take it before the deadlines @billcsho Wish I worked harder for my GPA, I was really lazy in sophomore year and that really ruined my GPA. It was actually junior year that’s bringing my GPA up! Would universities perhaps consider this?

@Kiarainnyc My apologies, I did not mean to sound like that! 3 of the top 20 universities are very good for my major (finance). Of course I’d value my major’s rankings over general rankings, but I’d like to just have a look at where I stand in terms of general rankings. Pretty low from the comments I’m getting!
