Man, I couldn't bullet the last thingy...hmmm... stupid codes... but yeah... chance me! After Reading A is For Admission and other books, I figured, hey, I have a shot... Pipe Dream? I'm sure... but...ehhh

First impression: Low SAT, less-than-stellar AP scores, yet a high GPA will tell adcoms something about your school's grading policy....
No EC's are going to make up for your scores; to even have a shot at the top schools, you need a 2200 or so unless you're the next NFL star or the curer of AIDS. Although you'll get a boost from ethnicity + first-gen college-goer, it probably won't be enough. The low unweighted GPA + low SAT score just stands out too much. I know that you can't do much about the GPA, but if you just do a bunch of practice problems for the SAT, I bet that you might be able to hit 2200 if you're lucky (some tests are easier than others, I've discovered).

You do have a good chance at many other schools though.

i can see myself doing way better in writing... i didnt take it as seriously because i was still thinking about UF, which coudnt care less about writing...which i think will jump from 550 to mid/high 600s just 'cause now i know what im looking for... lol... verbal was 610, i can maybe see it go to mid 600s... and math was 680... shooting for that 700... prepping up really works... seriously... i thought it was hogwash, but you start to pick up these little tricks along the way, so i see a pretty big improvement come october... the blue book=my best friend

BTW, i know my GPA is low... but in comparison with my class... i've taken the hardest courseload offered... i thought GPAs were taken into account in comparison with my class... not by itself, y'know? doesn't class rank count for anything? but stats aside... how are ECs?

Chances at what schools?

I thought you needed 4 aps over a 4 to be an AP scholar?

see, this is why i hate codes... but if it were just plain text it would be boring to read... lol :) uh...

brown
dartmouth
amherst
williams,
university of florida

AP Scholar is just passing 3 AP exams... only three people in my class are getting it.....

UF's FTIC 2006 profile

Middle 50% of the Class

High School GPA of 3.9 - 4.4
SAT of 1220 - 1390
ACT of 26 - 31

I think you have a shot at UF, but get your SAT above a 1330. Unless you are a URM then your scores will be ok.

He is a URM. You have a good shot at a lot of schools, but you should raise the sAT as much as possible for your top 4.

hmm... florida public schools don't practice AA, we have a Talented Twenty program...ensuring admission to atleast one public school for those ranked in the top 20 of their HS class...and please don't freak me out about UF... that's my sexy safety... our school got 15-20 UF acceptances last year... all with similar, if not lower stats...:)

I didn't know you were a URM, this makes a huge difference in our admissions criteria. Your stats are fine.

Good luck

[/ul]Better? Codes=ghetto

i'd say you have excellent chances at dartmouth :-)

your low SAT scores and high class rank make me kind of curious about what kind of school you go to like the first guy said - just my opinion.
i'm a URM too so that'll help you alot but you can raise ur odds even more if for schools like dartmouth, brown and amherst by raising ur SAT's another 200.
