Okay summer is here and I am bored. Give me some good music ideas. Rate your personal top 5 bands. They don't have to be "undisovered," just not overplayed on the radio station. Nothing like Greenday, Metallica, etc.

My top 5: Motion City Soundtrack(Please check this band out they are A-M-A-Z-I-N-G), Head Automatica(!), Something Corporate(well not undiscovered but a lot of people don't know them), The Decembrists, and The Caesars.

here, head automatica is like OVERPLAYED!! over and over and over again in radio stations. that song i think is called beating my heart baby or something!
and bloc party and gorillaz are played wayyy too much also!

I don't really listen to this mellow rock(? dont think it's rock..hmm maybe i duno) genre but I'm starting to really love placebo! Yeah and I know that system of a down is like fully 'discovered' but loving their new stuff!

well, it's like I said, it depends on where you are. The bands I listed above do get play but it's very minimal. To me they are not so undiscovered, to others they really may as well be. (if you take into consideration the bands Hoo listed) I was just throwing out a few recommendations.

just wanted to add some others to the list:

wilco
iron and wine
imogen heap
kenna
the album leaf
sigur ros
phoenix
elefant
DNTEL

i was never really good at sticking to restrictions :D
and I'd like to second the Damien Rice. :)

Madvillain (including MF DOOM and Quasimoto)
Jin
Brother Ali
Aesop Rock
The Wu-Tang Clan (Yeah, they're well-known, but "Radio/ suckers never play me")

No doubt. Have you heard that new Common LP, Be? It's definitely classic, in my most humble opinion. It's a good blend of his styles, sans Electric Circus, and has some good hard-hitting (for Common) tracks blended with some more Resurrection-esque instrospection.
