This is Chinese indeed..

Looking over this list, im starting see what people are saying.

Many science based schools, with the exception of a couple of Ivy-League research powerhouses (with outstanding medical and cognitive psychology grad departments)

Sorbonne, arguable the best school in France for undergraduate learning is not even mentioned, (for reference it is University of Paris 4)

Swiss Federal Institute of Technology - Zurich #27 is known as the MIT of Europe.

Lots of Graduate focus here, better for Grad applicants than UG's.

However this list is GOLDEN for any UG who wants to conduct some serious research in college. (Like myself) So look carefully.

yes i agree! look where Pitt is!! that makes me super happy because i want to heavily delve into medical or engineering research while doing my undergraduate education! but really, all colleges mentioned (and certainly some that are not mentioned) are great institutions! :) i think that if you are self-motivated and hard-working you'll succeed anywhere, regardless of where this ranking (or any other ranking system) places your college

I would not call it "Graduate" research. It's just research.Faculty at many types of schools do some published research and even get research $$$.

Is Rutgers really considered prestigious enough to make this list? Honestly I did not know that Rutgers was as renowned as this list makes it out to be.

Rutgers is a very strong school for research. This is separate from any comments about it as an undergrad school. This particular ranking is measuring how many top doctorates are at the colleges and much much they publish.

It would belong in the Top 75 in the uS.

Don't think it's Chinese. China will never ever put soo many Japanese universities into top 100. It's definetely from Japan

In the link given in the first post it clearly states where the list originated - Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

From their website...

"Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), is a key university in China. SJTU was founded in 1896. It is one of the oldest universities in China. The University has nurtured large numbers of outstanding figures, include JIANG Zemin, DING Guangen, QIAN Xuesen, Wu Wenjun, WANG An, etc..

SJTU boasts 20 academic schools, There are 60 undergraduate programs, 152 masters-degree programs, 93 Ph.D programs, 21 post-doctorate programs, 16 State key doctorate programs and 14 State key laboratories and National engineering centers. It has a good number of famous scientists and professors, including 22 academicians of the Academy of Sciences and Academy of Engineering, 35 "Changjiang Chair Professors" and more than 1, 420 professors and associate professors.

SJTU has beautiful campuses, Bao Zhaolong Library, Various laboratories. It has been actively involved in international academic exchange programs. It is the center of CERNet in east China region, through computer networks, SJTU has faster and closer connection with the world."

I'm not sure where nycyuppie3 gets his info about France. The Sorbonne is most definitelly NOT the best undergrad place in France. Most of the best French kids go to special Prep Colleges and then cram for the exams to the Grandes Ecoles such as Polytechnique, ENA, Normale Sup, etc. It's a completely different system. Only Sciences Po of the elites gives you anything even vaguely resembling a US undergrad experience.

thanks aeggie you took the words right outa my mouth =p

plus notice the url? .edu.cn cn-china... shouldn't that have been a dead giveaway to start with? if it weas japan why would it use a .cn ending?

hmmm...heard of IIT???

Definitely heard of it. It's harder to get into IIT than MIT, due to the size of the Indian population applying. But of course it's just statistics, considering the limited number of colleges in India relative to its population.

Quality wise, IIT is tops in science and technology in India.

Totally wrong... Where is Dartmouth? Where is Williams and Swarthmore??? or any other baby ivy?

It's not wrong; they just use a different methodology. Swarthmore and Williams aren't exactly well known for having tons of Nobel and Fields laureates (partly what the ranking is based on) like Cambridge and Chicago.

Here are more accurate rankings:

1 Stanford Univ USA 77.2 41.2 72.2 96.1 75.2 72.3 68.1

YEAH! Rutgers is 43!!! SWEET!

wisconsin. ohhhhhhh ahhhhhhhh

The rankings look good to me, considering that I will be attending the #10 school (The University of Chicago)! Then again, I am biased.

I also am not an advocate of rankings; they are subjective (note:the U. of C. is ranked #15 by USNews for universities in the USA alone).

Wisconsin is only underrated by prestige obsessed pinheads. Academics know it is very good, especially in sciences and liberal arts..
