Rankings are pretty damn accurate.

i believe these rankings are one of the more accurate i have seen. of course there numerous flaws, but overall it seems very accurate.

useless....
All these UK universities are nowhere as good
And what of NUS??? thats way better than oxford, the college of yesteryear ... all its useful for is shooting Harry Potter, and that isnt really a use anyways

This ranking is grad school based it seems.

cornell is ahead of penn.
nuff said.

way way off.
cornell shouldnt be anywhere near the top 15.

Cornell does mad research...its spot is well-earned.

please
UCSD??? no way

why is Brown not on the top 15 list

seems pretty accurate

This list is...interesting? It makes me happier knowing that I got in Cornell! Some of it is a little wack though- like DAMN Brown is around number 80?? That seems odd.

PENN STATE ##43 Yeah Baby.

UCSD #13 ranked ahead of UCLA #14/15 in 2005/2004?
Wishful thinking, to say the least, Shanghai Jiao Tong...

A university ranking excludes colleges. And, the use of the CC page is to obtain as much information about college as possible.

Ranking os universities, as well shown by the list, are almost exclusively related to research and other graduate level accomplishments. Hence, as good as many of those schools are -- and each should be commended -- many on that list are not as resourceful in proving a college age child with a "top 15" college education.

Many more people attend universities for undergrad than colleges.

A recent study of college matriculating by NBER found that the average college attendee is not the 18-22 year old. It is the community college working parent trying to get an edge on a new career or advancement in the same.

Hence, universities are not the largest educationg grounds for college level courses -- it appears that the community college is the king. In Miami, our community college's three campuses enroll more than UF and FSU combined.

Most here are looking at 4 year degrees at a college or university. CC discussion is not very important to this audience. I know the University of Phoenix is one of the largest degree mills around but not many here are looking at it.

Here's some possible reasons why UCSD is ranked #13:
http://ucsdnews.ucsd.edu/newsrel/awards/USNewsGrad06.asp

I know so many people have these obsessions with rankings, but there is no way to really rank top tier schools. The quality of the major is more important than the overall ranking. Studying some obsolete subject at Ivy won't get you anywhere.

Shianghai Jiatong University...never heard of it. Why should I care about a 'world ranking' by some university I've never heard of in my life?

(The reason the list is biased towards the USA is because most Chinese study in the USA.)

you may have never heard of it. but it is a very prominant ranking in other parts of the world. and if you ever look to get a job abroad, it may be of somewhat of a interest to you.
