top 500 world universities

Well I guess Im am happy with with my choice to go to msu. I mean its ranked ahead of brown.

People have been sufficiently brainwashed by the USNWR rankings. That is good enough. There is no need to cause confusion with other lists that are ridiculous to begin with.

Jesus Christ people, at least read how they came up with the list.

Berkeley behind Harvard and Cambridge? What a ridiculous ranking!

:p

IMO, much better than the USNWR rankings.

Holly crap!!! http://ed.sjtu.edu.cn/rank/2005/ARWU2005_TopAmer.htm
i think i'm going to puke!!

these are ridiculous.

Dude, we live in the US, where we have a different culture than many other areas. For example, we feel that being "happy" in a college is very important. Most other nations, which lack a supply of colleges already, therefore don't really consider the factors that we consider here. That's why this list is so science and math and economics based - these are the huge things that gives any nation economic competitiveness in the global market. In this framework, this ranking at least makes some sense. It's not very Americanized. If you're going to call it ridiculous, at least put some warrants behind your claim.

All rankings are not equal! Just because someone finds a new (and often more ridiculous) way to rank colleges, does not mean the rankings have to be accepted. Personally, I think all the systems I have seen are pretty silly- including US News.

harvard>cambridge=LIE!

aaawww...poor africa barely makes it on the list

Its hard to believe that the Indian Institute of Technology is not on the list at all!

awe man NICE. the schools i'm applying to are ranked from 10-15.... EVEN MY SAFETIES!!! UCSD and UWash YAY!!! now i know if i get rejected by my top choice, my safeties are still highly recognized :)

edit: btw, my top school of choice is ranked worse than my safety schools.

Such a stupid and insane ranking. Only fools believe it.

despite what many say this list is accurarte -- to its founding equation. i recall reading a while ago how newsweek derives its list on wikipedia and the controversies it presents. one claim was when us newsweek began to calculate and enumerate the ranking of the schools an issue arouse of which equation to use. i recall one lady used a different, yet cogent, method of deriving the ranking and some odd schools where placed in front of others. but we all know which equation newsweek went with (the one that puts the ivies on top because it makes the list more believable to artard students.)

I think the only way for students to like a ranking is to make it based off selectivity and also look at the accepted applicant pool stats.

but if they decide to do this, eventually, admission will be solely based off stats if colleges even care about ranking.

Finally, a ranking that recognizes the eminence of the UC system in academia.
