Interesting is it not? While I think this guy was being too harsh on Stanford it's nice to read about something that shows the other side of the university, even though it's biased. I think a lot can be learned about a school from looking at both the positive and negative sides of the university.

Don't agree? Don't find this interesting? Too bad. I'm making this thread anyway. :p

Yeesh, people need to get over their schools. Somehow kids get it into their minds that the college they go to will determine their success. And they're somehow surprised that their lives suck after getting a "prestigious" degree.

That guy spends an entire post complaining that "so-and-so didn't go to Stanford undergrad". Like that matters? He names a couple successful people from various universities--likewise I'm sure I could name a couple successful people that DID attend Stanford undergrad, thereby nullifying his entire point. He also names a couple successful dropouts, showing that it isn't worth paying for a Stanford education. What ridiculously flawed thinking.

Anyway, an idiot is an idiot will always be an idiot, whether from Stanford, Harvard, or Berkeley, MIT, etc. And a genius is a genius will always be genius. The school doesn't make the (wo)man.

read this- a very interesting quote from that thread

"Most of the techie-Teaching Assistants didn't go to Stanford either. I had guys from Purdue, UCLA, Dartmouth, Amherst, U. of Maryland, U. of Texas, and of course, the ubiquitous University of California at Berkeley (UC Berkeley). Several profs got their undergrad degrees from Berkeley. "

How ironic, that as berkeley cc'ers are arguing that the professors who teach at cal got THEIR degrees not from Cal, but from places like harvard and stanford, stanford is arguing that their profs got degrees not from Stanford, but from Cal!

Maybe Cal and Stanford just need to switch professors. or disgruntled Cal and Stanford cc'ers should just read each other's posts.

The things complained about in the "anti"-Stanford post are pretty picayune.

It reminds me of the book a former Harvard Alumni wrote about how Harvard is overhyped.

Truth be told, these problems are true for many schools (much, much worst at crappier schools) and Harvard and Stanford are still great schools relative to whats out there.
