top academic sport colleges

for example:
duke
usc
university of notre dame
georgetown

is there any others???

Stanford is definitely number 1. They have an amazing football team and a decent basketball team. Northwestern has a good football team and a decent basketball team. Duke’s football team is atrocious but their basketball team is awesome. My top 5:

Stanford

Northwestern

Duke

Vanderbilt (good basketball team, bad football team)

Notre Dame (good in basketball and football)

No consideration of state schools? Go Longhorns (UT-Austin) and Gtech

and UNC and UVA and Wisconsin-Madison and Michigan and the rest of the B10 schools.

Stanford, Duke, and Notre Dame

umm ucla???

Boston College has teams perennially ranked in the top 25:

men’s soccer; women’s soccer; field hockey; women’s hockey (currently #7); men’s hockey (currently #1 and defending national champion); strong men’s and women’s basketball; strong baseball; more than strong football; solid men’s and women’s tennis; solid fencing; coed and women’s sailing (both ranked # 1 and current holders of several national championships) – you can bet your splice on it!

Below is probably the full list:
Stamford
Duke
ND
BC
Vandy
UCLA
UVA
Michigan
Northwestern
Cal

Honerable Mentions
Wisconsin, Minnesota, UNC, Wake, Purdue, USC

Note: Georgetown doesn’t have a D1 football program, otherwise they would be in the full list.

Don’t forget Williams. 40% of the student body are athletes.

Stanford

Duke
.
.
.
Everything else

if you go by total number of NCAA championships the top three are Stanford, UCLA and USC.

Do you mean top Division 1? Or schools in which much of the student body participates in sports? S is at UNC with very good athletic Div 1 teams but much of the student body doesn’t participate. D is at Williams where most of the student body participates in sports.

Stanford, Notre Dame, Michigan, and Boston College for me.

San Diego State is also very underrated but has been doing better in all sports lately.

I think Duke is overrated due to their basketball program.

Notre Dame is the best, hands down. Top 20 school with the best football program in the country, a top 10 basketball team, great hockey, lax, guys and girls soccer are both solid.

There is a Stamford, but do you even know where it is?

Stanford, Duke, Notre Dame, Northwestern. LAC’s-Holy Cross, Colgate, Davidson.

Stamford ? LOL, gloworm, good catch!

What about UCONN, #27 USNWR’s #27 National Public University ?

I can’t believe the University of Florida hasn’t been mentioned yet. Let’s be honest, the football and basketball programs are really the only 2 sports that matter in college and Florida has had competitive teams in both sports as well as excellent academics.

I wouldn’t say Florida has “excellent academics” but I agree that football and basketball are the only two sports that matter in college.

HISTORICALLY GOOD FOOTBALL PROGRAMS

 1. Michigan
 2. Notre Dame

HISTORICALLY GOOD BASKETBALL PROGRAMS

 1. UCLA
 2. Duke

I limited my choice of schools to the USNWR Top 25 and excluded Stanford because it doesn’t historically have a renowned football program although the Cardinal has been playing great the last two years.

If we’re talking the best sports schools in general, I would give that honor to Florida, Texas, Wisconsin, UCLA and Ohio State.
