What are the best programs for undergrad study of applied linguistics? Right now I'm planning on becoming an English language teacher in an Asian country like Korea so I want to study language and development of it. But I'm also looking at a possible international studies major becuase I'm also interested in the social sciences/history and would like to be able to weave in language with that.

So far I've heard the usual MIT and Harvard. Any others?

UCLA is planning for a undergrad major in applied linguistics by Fall 2009. Check out these professors on Wiki and see if you like what they're doing:

Emanuel Schegloff, Charles Goodwin, Elinor Ochs, John Heritage, Lyle Bachman, Marianne Celce-Murcia

The University of Pennsylvania has the oldest Linguistics department in the United States, and educated Noam Chomsky (who, for all his political bloviations, is a rather cunning linguist)

For a place a little less selective but offering a great education, take a look at Earlham College. It has a strong international studies program and also offers comparative linguistics.
