<p>The SAMMY Milk Mustache scholarship provides $7,500. (one time) and a DisneyWorld weekend for 25 winners across the U.S. For those of you with 4.0 unweighted GPAs and recruitable-level sports accomplishments, this is a nice award. Deadline is in early March.</p>
<p>^^FYI: You void your eligibility for a school-funded athletic scholarship if you receive this type of award.</p>
<p>I know it is fine for the Ivies, where athletic scholarships are not given. It is considered an academic scholarship.</p>
<p>Hmm. DS has vowed to write no more essays for college, but maybe I could offer to split 75-25 with him or something if he got one? :)</p>

<p>You will spend a lot of time trying to find out their qualifications. Unfortunately,
the sponsor does not clarify what they are looking for. </p>
<p>Many of the winners have shamelessly exaggerated their accomplishments.</p>
<p>The requirements are stated pretty clearly- tip-top GPA, significant varsity sports accomplishments, leadership, and community service. Having met several SAMMY winners, I can attest they all had bonafide fabulous credentials, and are now succeeding at top universities.</p>
<p>^I agree. I think it’s a good option for those interested in Ivies and DIII athletics. The only problem I had is that on the application, in the section about extracurricular activities, you can only talk about these activities: choir, newspaper, and student council. There’s one other place to list one source of volunteer work, but if you’re in other clubs or have a part-time job, there is no place on the application to mention it.</p>
<p>Also, I think they check with your school to make sure that your grades are legitimate, at the very least. I was a semi-finalist last year (or at least made it to the second round), and someone contacted my GC about it.</p>
<p>The whole GPA thing makes it difficult, though. What if you have a 4.0 from a mediocre public school with little to no honors or AP’s, versus a mid 3 from a top tier boarding school with honors and AP’s.</p>
<p>I would think standardized tests we be part of the equation. After all, if you’re a hotshot prep school kid with a 3.0, you must be rocking at least a 2200+ ACT, right?</p>
