Hi, I am applying to boarding school for the tenth grade and was wondering if anyone could shed some light on any great writing& visual arts programs within top bs's. Which schools have the best studio space? Any special programs I should know about? Which schools are the most flexible with open studio hours and time? Schools where the arts are mandatory/ many extra programs are offered? Schools with active art clubs/ community? Great school publications?

If anyone has any first hand experience/ knowledge, I would love to hear it!

I am interested in schools with great academics AND great art programs.

I would say that you will learn to write well at many, many boarding schools. The small class sizes enable more frequent writing assignments and more individual attention from teachers. Middlesex has a unique focus on writing that’s worth consideration.

St. Paul’s School (SPS) has a very strong visual arts program. I would also look at Concord Academy for visual arts.

Thank you, but I did not clarify myself correctly. When I said writing programs I meant creative writing opportunities. Lit Mags? Writing Clubs? Thanks for the info on SPS and Concord!

Take a look at Interlochen Arts Academy. It has a reputation for not only the best arts programs in the country, but rigorous academics, too.
