If you have the top bunk in the dorm room, I was wondering what do you do in terms of your alarm clock, reading material, or whatever else you'd be engaging in way up there? Obviously it's tough to get a nightstand, so i was wondering, with those experienced, what did you do?

I've seen lots of people use the little attachable shelf from IKEA.. its just a little platform thing that hangs off the edge of your bed, and you can put a small lamp, alarm clock, and a book there if u want... for me, being on the top bunk was nice cuz when my alarm clock rang, it made me wake up and jump outta bed to turn it off, instead of just snoozing right past it

i bet that 20 extra seconds of blaring noise ticked off your roommates

Some ppl buy those clip on lamps and clip them on the bed.

about the alarm clock...

if you have 8am classes and use your alarm clock, won't your roomies get ****ed?

it's obviously understandable that your alarm clock has to go off. they just have to get used to going back to sleep

I don't know which dorm you will be in but in my daughters (Foothill) the beds where up against the wardrobes. That made the head of the top bunk even with the top of the wardrobe. We ran a cord up to it and she put her clock/radio right there.

The guy who lived next door used a plastic bag and hung it on the wall with a thumbtack, and put the alarm clock in there. LOL.

^haha that's so funny

Thats awsome.

That's true ingenuity right there.

Come on, we're berkeley students. We figure stuff out.

An upper bunk bed setup with the desks below it is much easier than a standard dual bunk setup.

Can you use your cell phone for an alarm clock?

^ That's what I do, and it works great.

S used his watch for an alarm clock which he put in the little space between his mattress and the rail of the top bunk. He later ordered a clip-on shelf made specifically for bunk beds that attaches to the top bunk. He ordered it from the Princeton University online store. The clip-on shelf was great because he was able to put an alarm clock and a few books on it and it had a built in well for a water bottle or coffee mug.
