Which would you prefer and why? I never slept on a bunk bed before so I'm not sure! Thanks.

IF top bunk is a party till you puke kinda person.....the obvious answer is that you don't want the bottom bunk. Just a thought. One the other hand if you are a party creature....bottom bunk is easier roll out to the loo.

I had the top bunk last year and liked it because when people came in to hang out, they wouldn't be sitting on my bed. It's also good because you aren't tempted as much to study on it and end up falling asleep!

if you have your choice, take bottom. its alot harder to have sex on the top bunk in my opinion.

I vote bottom.

if you don't mind people sitting on it.

if you and the roomie are barfing on each other's things than you have more to worry about than who is on which bunk.

Neither: I want a single.

I did the bunk bed thing enough when I was growing up. In my opinion, adults don't sleep in bunk beds unless they're in prison or the service.

I'd take bottom bunk, since I'd rather not do drunken climbs up a little ladder.

I like top bunk. If your roommate is up late doing work, the light wont bother you (assuming, of course, that you get him/her to turn on the desk lamp rather than the overhead). It felt more open, too. Our room was tiny, and I'd sometimes get claustrophobic sitting at my desk, and being on the bottom bunk must've felt even more like a cave. Not to mention that it's a little more private.

I have a loft bed at one house, a regular bed at another, and bunk beds at camp.

If you are tall and your cielings are low (not a problem with me because I'm tiny, but I've been witness), the top might not be so fun.

Also, if you like to roll out of bed in the morning, it proves to be much more difficult from the top bunk. That said, if you wake up by alarm, having to climb down the ladder to turn it off is a good way of making sure you get out of bed.

I would personally go for the bottom, though. I have a third option next year-- bottom, top, or single bed?

Tricky.

I'm more into the bottom bunk because life is more convenient that way.

I think the top bunk wins: you don't have someone lying on your bed, sitting on your stuff and it's a lot less tempting to throw stuff on your bed and forget about it. The top is less cramped: you don't have to watch the bed bending when your roomate climbes on top, and should the bed drop (highly unlikely & god forbid) you won't be the one getting crushed :D. You get more exercise climbing in and out of bed, and a little more privacy since no one can really see you. The only inconvenient part is spreading your bed every morning since it's so high, and worrying about accidentally rolling off. Other than that, the top rocks. ;)

I did bunk beds once, and I was on the bottom. I would suggest avoid the bottom bunk. These were creaky, old, rusty bunks, so everytime the guy above me moved the thing sounded as if it were going to collapse. If you weren't claustrophobic before a bottom bunk, you will be.

Plus if it does collapse, the guy on top fares much better.

Top bunks aren't any better for claustrophobia -- in fact, they're worse. You have about two feet between you and the ceiling if you're lucky.

Done both, not going back.

I was on the top bunk my first year. I don't recommend it. My roommate was cool about me sitting on her bed, but sometimes it's like there's no where to be. If you're working in bed, everytime you have to get something you have to climb down, and it's really a pain in the ass. My roommate said the bottom bunk sucked, but everytime I offered to switch she said no, so you can guess which one was worse.

I'm in the wrong user name. The last post was by DoItForJohnny.

neither if you can help it. Try to find a way to unbunk your beds! I was on the top bunk for a whole two weeks and got sick of having to jump on and off it everytime i needed something rather than just being able to stand up and get it. But, if you are on the bottom bunk you're the one stuck with having everyone sit on your bed since it's more accessible.

bottom for many many many many reasons well-oulined here. unless you often have dreams about being encapsulated, then that could be kind of scary (not like i know from experience or anything.

bottom...because I sleep-walk sometimes :)

bottom, I'm afraid of falling out (even though I know there's a guard rail)

Question: for those who sleep in the top bunk, how the heck do you make your bed in the morning??
