what are the top business undergraduate schools in california? UCs and CSUs. how about specializing in marketing?

Marketing is probably the worst business specialty to study in business, just FYI...

why is marketing bad?

For Marketing, only Berkeley has a truly great program.

Anyways, here's hour the Gourman Report ranks them, these rankings are a little dated though.

5 UCB 4.86
96 Cal State Northridge 3.53
139 Cal State LA 3.08
150 Cal State Fullerton 2.95
161 Cal State Long Beach 2.84
162 Cal State Fresno 2.83
169 Cal State Sacramento 2.77
176 Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 2.69
183 Cal State Chico 2.62
197 Cal State Hayward 2.46
200 Cal State Bakersfield 2.43

There are other schools in California that rank well too:

20 USC 4.64
77 Santa Clara 3.73
95 SDSU 3.54
98 U San Francisco 3.45
113 San Francisco State 3.34
171 San Jose State 2.74
173 U Pacific 2.72
180 U San Diego 2.65

Alternatively, here is the US News ranking

3 UCB 4.5
9 USC 4.1
57 Santa Clara 3.1
66 Pepperdine 3
77 SDSU 2.9
77 Cal Riverside 2.9
87 U San Diego 2.8
106 Loyola Marymount 2.7
116 SJSU 2.6
116 U San Francisco 2.6
141 Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 2.5

yes, marketing is the worst major in business if you have no interest or acumen here and the best if you do. isn't this obvious?

with respect to the gourman report, it is a decade old. in that amount of time entire departments and faculties within them come and go, rise and fall, much more so than entire universities.

2987, i answered your question on the other thread. but since marketing is my field, here is a shot:

Marshall (USC)

Haas (UCB)

San Diego State

Fullerton

Long Beach State

Lucas (San Jose State)

Cal Poly Pomona

Orfalea (Cal Poly SLO)

Leavey (Santa Clara)

Graziadio (Pepperdine)

i couid write volumes about this topic but some short observations. marshall is the hands down champion in my field. its curriculum and faculty achievements are far superior to haas, which only has about five courses in this area. any of the CSUs on this list would be a huge bargain, and several of these units have more than twenty faculty and a dozen areas of specialization just in marketing. santa clara and pepperdine are on the expensive side but are well regarded in the areas they serve.

please be advised that these observations are reflective of undergraduate marketing programs only. most UC campuses have no such programs.

Berkeley for undergrad is NOT a marketing program. Most students there aim for Investment Banking or to a smaller extent management and strategy consulting. However, consulting firms prefer Stanford grads a little more than Berkeley ones.
