Top College vs. Honors Program

Hey, I am currently attending a top 50 university, however I just got accepted to one of my dream schools that I don't really want to pass up. However, I just received an invitation today to the honors program at my college where I will be granted access to really small classes, and the top professors at the University. While I really want to attend the school I just got accepted to, my parents are trying to convince me to stay at the honors program since I am already on some pretty heavy scholarships. Any advice on which direction I should go? I would really rather attend the school I just got accepted to but really I want to take into account where I can benefit from the best learning experience I can receive. Any suggestions?

It depends on what your goals might be; if you're interested in receiving the very best education then it is likely that you'll benefit more from going to your college honors program (unless the dream school you got admitted to would also offer small class sizes and professor time). However, if you're more interested in the prestige of the degree and how you might leverage it into job opportunities then you may be better served by going to your dream institution. What is it about this dream school that you do not have at your current university?

Stick with the scholarship if you don't want to be an investment banker.

Basically, the science program at the school I am attending is pretty weak. This was the main reason why I wanted to transfer in the first place, however I am not exactly sure how being in the honors program would enhance my learning experience in terms of science if the program I am in is pretty weak in the first place. Does that make any sense?

Yeah if its a bad program it does. Still my dad makes quite a lot of money nowadays and he always goes on about how he was hurt so much by student loans that hes only now getting out of debt 100%. Something to think about. I say research the honors program and if it's really bad then yeah transfer I guess.

is it weak in the sense that you sleep through your science classes and score 100s on your test, or is it weak in the sense that your major options are limited to the usual bio, chem, and phys, instead of something more interesting like microbio, neuroscience, etc?

yeah, im in the same situation Either/Or. i just got admitted into my dream school, but if i go, then i'll be paying loans off for at least 20 years after i graduate. and that does not include graduate school tuition either. ugh...
