interesting. does anyone else find it ridiculous that connecticut college is considered lower than a bunch of 3rd tier schools?

Yeah, Conn College should be more in line with Trinity and Hamilton; however, I find it more proposterous that URochester is lower than Ithaca College and significantly lower than RIT. You almost wonder if they got these latter two schools mixed up. Not that SAT is everything, but the avg SAT at URochester is ~ 180 points higher than these other two schools.

Where do these Peer Assessments come from? There are clearly some problems:

Peer assessment/ School/%admit/ SATs/

3.3 /Whitman / 49 /Verbal: 620 - 750 Math: 620 - 700

3.5 /Seattle U/ 68 / Verbal: 520 - 630 Math: 530 - 620

3.5/ Whitworth/ 67 /Verbal: 540 - 650 Math: 540 - 650

and most dubious:

3.8/ Gonzaga / 73!!! / Verbal: 540 - 640 Math: 550 - 650

Add Dordt College, IA to the unusual/funny name list...

Yeah, the more I looked at this the more inconsistecies there are. Stonehill College (which I've never heard of before) tied with Georgetown, Rice and WUSTL and ahead of Claremont MCKenna, Colgate, Colby, Bates, Hamilton, Bucknell, Tufts, BC, Holy Cross, Trinity, Conn College in a reputational survey? UScranton and Elizabethtown College considerably ahead of Lehigh? I wouldn't think consensus or any statistics could generate these anomolies. Anyone have an explanation or know about these schools to justify their placement?

The one for Tennessee is ridiculous. Most of the students from the state go to UT, so I don't get why it's so low. Whatever. Rankings don't mean much in my opinion.

more ridiculousness:

3.9 / Reed/ 45% admit / Verbal: 660 - 760 Math: 620 - 710

3.9 / Linfield/ 73% admit / Verbal: 510 - 620 Math: 520 - 640

North Carolina is waaaaay off. SC and VA are also a bit off. I guess this is why US News only counts peer assessment as 25%.

These peer rankings are from US News and they are developed from colleges in the same categories. So Reed's eval is from other LACs while Linfield's is from Comprehensive colleges. They really can't be compared this way (between categories).

Yeah, I've never of Linfield either. Not that I expect to have heard of every college in Oregon, but would think I would know of any that are considered comparable to Reed. This makes me question peer assessment even more than I had, especially below the 4.0 level. It seems that in many cases schools named after a city fare better than superior schools with a more obscure name, just because they have heard of the city before. Besides the Lehigh, UScranton, Elizabethtown example above, this would also work for Ithaca College above Skidmore and Union, which to me are considered far stronger than Ithaca College.

Is a 4.0 in national universities supposed to be comparable to a 4.0 in LACs, comprehensive colleges and any other categories USNWR has or not?

these rankings arenot accurate.
there are ERRORS

absolutely worthless- where did you get these rankings?

University of Florida is 100x better than Rollins, FSU should be higher up, and UNF shouldnt even be on the list.

These are from the US News website. This thread was made with the intent that people may use it when thinking of schools from their home state to apply to when doing prospective college searches. No college ranking is ever correct/perfect.

Erin's dad has it right you can not compare peer assessment between categories.

Rollins is crap

Wow, these rankings are so bad. I was going to get angry, but it must be some sort of joke. Wake Forest between Elon and App state? ***? Wake, Davidson, and CH should all be tied.
I also didn't realize that JMU was a better school than William and Mary or Washington and Lee. Interesting. Peer Assessment is worthless and these rankings just illustrate it.
