Why isn't Tufts in CC's "Top Colleges" area of the forum?

Racism. Plain and simple.

Nooooo reallllly, why?

Because we’re not ranked in the top 20 or top 25 in USNWR’s rankings

Is Tufts a top regional school, is that why? Like a Wake Forest or something?

Not sure what exactly you mean by that, but rankings don’t mean as much as the people making them want you to think they do. FWIW, I think Tufts is ranked 28th? by USNWR, so not too far off CC’s arbitrary cut-off.

That’s silly. I would think that it would rank above schools such as Swarthmore and Haverford and a slew of others that are included in the ranking.

i might be wrong, but I think ‘top colleges’ refers to colleges which people on CC tend to be most interested in.

The colleges you mention are liberal arts colleges, not universities. U.S. News makes the shockingly arbitrary distinction of ranking liberal arts college undergrad programs and university undergrad programs differently, and CC followed suit. Accordingly Tufts, a university, is not ranked against colleges like Swarthmore and Haverford. It is not even, in fact, ranked against any of its peers in NESCAC, the group of colleges with which it is arguably most closely connected.

I’ve no idea how CC determined the 19 (?) universities to include in "top universities’, but it doesn’t appear to be based solely on US News & World Report, as they include UNC Chapel Hill, which is tied with Tufts at 28 according to US News.

I’m going to revert back to my original explanation. Frankly, it makes as much sense as any other attempt to describe these ranking choices as anything but arbitrary.

This issue comes up periodically. One of the dumber arguments I’ve heard is that there are fewer posts on the Tufts forum. Of course there are fewer posts–it’s harder to find.

My theory is that it’s just bad website design. There are some other schools besides Tufts that belong in the “top university” list, and it’s equally annoying that the Ivy League schools are elsewhere. There’d be plenty of room on one page for more schools, including the Ivies.

And why are there a few universities on the “colleges” list? You’ve got me there! The number of posts argument sure doesn’t work.

“That’s silly. I would think that it would rank above schools such as Swarthmore and Haverford and a slew of others that are included in the ranking.”

Uhhhh are you saying Tufts is automatically better than Swarthmore, Pomona, Bowdoin, Haverford, Amherst, Williams and a bunch of of LACs? Try to explain yourself.

Actually he said “I would think”, clearly indicating that this was his personal opinion, rather than an objective fact. But you know what, that sounds too reasonable. New idea:

INTERNET FIIIIGHT! Let’s have a giant forum flame war to once-and-for-all decide which college is the BEST!!1!1!! The winner gets the glory of having proved an inherently subjective idea to be an objective FACT!!!
Once that question is settled forever, we’ll post pics and scream at each other until we definitively determine whether Jacob or Edward is hunkier.

^ Lol. But really - why would it ever matter to you, except for your ego, how a trivial website attempts to categorize us? Tufts is obviously a great school and you don’t need a website, or USNWR for that matter, to tell you that.

^huzzah! 10char

It obviously doesn’t hurt my view of the school that it isn’t listed as a “top” on CC… haha my only complaint is that it costs me another click to find the Tufts forum.

My complaint is out of my own laziness more than anything else.

Um okay…sure tell yourself that :)

oh sorry light10491, you’re right. I no longer consider tufts as one of my top choices because an internet forum doesn’t consider it a “top college or university”.

I mean, since the forum doesn’t say it’s a “top”, then an education there must mean nothing!

…yeah. :)

Edward. 10char.

i won’t retaliate

anyway wats Edward

Cullen?

what?
