Hi guys,
So I was in the #1 Dream School Thread, and the list was getting pretty long and hefty.
I decided to streamline the results of the poll so far. Based on number of votes by posters so far, here are the top 15 dream schools on College Confidential!

Stanford University

Cornell University

Columbia University TIED WITH Yale University

Brown University TIED WITH Massabchusetts Institute of Technology

Princeton University TIED WITH University of Chicago

University of California Berkeley TIED WITH University of Southern California

Dartmouth College

Georgetown University TIED WITH University of Pennsylvania

Harvard University TIED WITH Northwestern University

Washington University in St. Louis

University of California- Los Angeles

Amherst College TIED WITH New York University

Duke University

Pomona

University of Virginia

Results probably subject to change as more votes come in.

That looks like a good representation of the dream schools of kids in the Bay Area; those are the top schools kids from my high school always apply to. Thanks for compiling the list.

Actually it’s the top 22 dream schools.

2 in the South
3 in the Midwest
5 in California
6 in New England
6 in Mid-Atlantic

All of it makes sense except Cornell being so high and Harvard being so low. Cornell is the highest Ivy, and Harvard the lowest…

I have a feeling it has to do with regionality as well.
Notice the high amount of UC Berkeley votes- this most likely indicates a CA voting sample pool.

It also indicates that the school is kick ass

hahaha nice. I see you’re at Berkeley. Love the school pride :)

Yes, all the schools on the list kick ass, pretty much.

Great point on regional bias. In the South, Dream schools would also include Rice, Vanderbilt, William & Mary, Emory, Davidson, Washington & Lee.

On Harvard being so low, Harvard is the school that everyone loves to hate. There’s nothing like the feeling of superiority that comes from going to Harvard except the extreme superiority that comes from being able to say you turned down Harvard.

I’m not surprised by Cornell’s strong showing, but I am extremely surprised by the results for USC; I mean, really, USC?

University of California- Berkeley
or
Brown

Washington University in St. Louis! Whootage!

Interestingly, notice how Berkeley, Brown, and WashU all have bears for their school mascot? =)

Williams is lucky. It gets a purple cow.

On another note, I’m surprised Duke is not as high. It’s really a great school as well.

please make actual selections on the Dream thread, to keep the rankings on one thread:
