Top engineering schools

what are the top five schools for:

civil/structural engineering
architecture
industrial engineering

MIT, Berkeley, Stanford, Cornell a toss amongst Michigan, CMU and Georgia Tech

I know that for industrial engineering, Northwestern is way up there towards the top. I’m sure the civil engineering program is quite highly ranked as well.

Civil eng’g is Berkeley’s forte. It has been their forte since time immemorial. USNews ranked Berkeley Civil Eng’g number 1 for the longest time. However, for architecture and Industrial eng’g, I’m sure there are other worthy rivals. But if I have to choose one school for engineering - any major - I’d go for MIT undergrad and Berkeley postgrad.

Northwestern is not ranked in the top-5 but I think it’s just outside the top-10 (8th few years ago). It does have the best research center in Transportation, which to me, is the more interesting area within civil and has quite a bit overlaps with Industrial engineering.

If you are interested in Transportation, you can get a minor in Transportation & Logistics
[Transportation Center - Northwestern University](http://transportation.northwestern.edu/academic/ugradMinor.html) The center has great reputation within the industry. You can find firms with their execs in the business advisory committee here:

The civil engg department also offers a concentration in Architectural Engineering and Design

Northwestern’s Industrial engg is ranked #4. Many IE majors double-major with econ, take Kellogg certificate program, or do both.

Rice University is about #2 for architecture.
