I think you have to purchase the entire meal plan. Williams has NO RAs. They have unpaid Junior Advisors, who aren't even given free room. $70k is a nice chunk of change. I just didn't see any indication that the OP had it.

oh, I don't. I meant 100k as a "ballpark" number, it was a spontaneous post.

So is it correct that, assuming you earn $5k a year from summer and school-year earnings, you are really talking about close to $150k?

more or less, yeah

jk: What happened to your quest?

I thought Williams' JAs did get a free room for their work....no?

They do have House coordinators who are paid. House coordinators appear to have the same function as Residential advisors, or RAs. This is a worthwhile savings for any studnet. From the williams handbook:

the spring, students submit applications for approximately 30-35 House Coordinator positions. Following an interview process by a selection committee, House Coordinators are selected from rising sophomores, junior, and senior classes. House Coordinators serve during the academic year and are assigned to a residential house by the selection committee. *House Coordinators are paid positions. * House Coordinators are expected to plan house events/activities during the academic year. These events/activities are designed to create a greater sense of community within the residence. House Coordinators work closely with the Campus Life Coordinator assigned to their residential units. The position requires House Coordinators to be involved in residential self-governance and to be prepared to address issues/concerns that might arise. They must have knowledge of the resources available on campus and make referrals as needed. House Coordinators meet on a regular basis with the Campus Life Coordinator and are required to attend fall training programs and ongoing training seminars.

Going to Amherst. Close to full ride. Thanks for all your help!

At Williams, Junior Advisors who live with the first year entries are not paid. House Coordinators for the Sophomore, Junior and Senior residences are paid.

J2K5, Glad things worked out for you.

Congrats! Great school!

No go on the Williams negotiation?

Amherst is a great school. Congrats!

When I got the Amherst package (RD), I just marked Williams off. Amherst > Williams

...No need to negotiate.

Congratulations!

Thanks for that info. Good on Amherst for presenting a decent package. Clever them.

Good luck to you too!
