I see the RSVP for the first Top Scholars weekend (held on 3/6 & 3/7) is 2/19. Seems like no chance of hearing about the Paul Tulane Award before the RSVP deadline?
(In other words, no travel plans unless D is lucky enough to get the PTA).

Not likely at all, but there is the TSW in April as well. That should work for you in terms of which order the dominoes need to fall.
We chose the strategy that fallenchemist suggests. We may end up paying a bit more for flights, but we simply won’t go if the DHS isn’t on the table.
If no scholarship, we are going to go to NOLA for pure vacation!
We had RSVP’d for the April session. Unfortunately, I’m suddenly facing a schedule conflict. How different is Top Scholars Weekend to Destination Tulane? Would it be better to switch to March for the Top Scholars experience? We’ve never visited Tulane before.
They are pretty different. DT does not have the overnight, the preregistering for classes, the meetings with advisors and professors, the talks about opportunities available to Honors Program members…TSW is a lot more like June Orientation than it is like DT. If you can, I would reschedule to the March TSW.
Both tentative schedules are online. We are going to the March Top Scholars weekend. It looks like the major differences are that with Top Scholars, the student gets to go ahead and meet with an advisor and register for classes. Also, there are talks about the honors program and some interesting faculty lectures, in addition to the student having the opportunity to sit in on classes. Here is the Top Scholars link in case you didn’t see it. I think Top Scholars looks a little better.

For some reason they are not doing the overnight dorm stay this year. I noticed it isn’t on the schedule so I called admissions last week to ask and they said they are not doing that part. My wife and I are a little disappointed, we were looking forward to having a hotel for 2 instead of our usual 5 with the 3 kids. Our two younger boys have school and are staying home with the grandparents. Please Tulane reconsider the overnight. ha ha .
Oh, that is disappointing, @X22011 but thanks for catching that.
Thank you all for the feedback. Hopefully, I can resolve the conflict. If not, I’ll switch it to March.
