I've been looking @ a lot of colleges such as dartmouth they don't have a business school and majors such as finance. What do people at these schools usually study if they want to go into finance when they graduate? The only major that seems close enough to me is economics...

yea...its ridiculous....none of the new england ivies have undergraduate business programs...econ isnt technically business its a social science...thats why they have econ. Ive decided i dont wanna go to an ivy because none of them have i business. The way i see it...going to a place like dartmouth or brown won't really help you in the business world unless you plan on going straight to graduate school, which, if you ask me, is a bad idea.

Any major from Dartmouth or Brown is more of a funnel into the business world (top jobs at investment banks, consulting firms, law firms, media firms, technology firms) than any undergrad business school in the country with the possible exception of UPenn (Wharton).

Just because Dartmouth does not have a finance major or a undergrad business school don't think that opportunities pass them by.

I think this is a major mistake in terms of understanding. My best friend at Goldman didn't even know what an "DCF" was when he started his internship. Dartmouth and the Ivies are in fact desired more than business school grads at the top firms. In fact, most top banks and consulting firms prefer Econ at the Ivies over business at any school except Wharton.

If you look at business schools like UVA, UNC, and Ross you'll see they actually have many less hires at top firms than Dartmouth!! In terms of finance or business the top feeders I have seen are Duke, Dartmouth, Princeton, Williams, Yale, Harvard, and Columbia.

This problem was bothering me as well.

Slipper1234, where did you get your information on the top feeders into business or finance firms?

There was a vault.com*** list of places that recruit on campuses but I got kicked off for posting the links (which I think is ridiculous since it was totally helpful to people) so I can't do it again.
