Top schools for Surfer bum, water polo player

Ok, it's a me too kind of thread similar to the top schools at which music is a foot in the door kind of post, however instead of music it's surfing and playing water polo.

Here's a good place to start: the Collegiate Water Polo Association:
http://www.collegiatewaterpolo.org/ Looking at the list of schools with actual water polo teams, UCSD, and Cal Poly San Luis Obsipo would all be good bets for surfers (I know that UCSD also has a surf team) The University of San Diego also has club water polo and lots of kids into surfing. Also check San Diego State University and UC Santa Barbara. Pepperdine might also be worth looking at. In Florida, look at University of Central Florida and the University of Florida.

carolyn, thanks.

Just wanted to add that I see the University of Southern California also has both a water polo team and a surf team.

And, you might also look through this list of colleges in Hawaii:
http://www.hcc.hawaii.edu/hspls/huniv.html, especially:
http://www.uhh.hawaii.edu/~geology/outside.php

Unless your'e in the cream of the crop, it's going to be tough to play for any water polo team in California. Even the small liberal arts schools like Whittier and Redlands field national powerhouses. Even though the surfing might not be up to par with northern or even southern california, Florida might be the best bet for most water polo players looking for some surfing as well.

If you can play at that level, though, options really open up in California. Best surfing schools would probably be UCSC, Stanford, Santa Clara or any school near the bay area.

UCSB has lots of surfers with the ocean at your doorstep.

One of my kids attends University of Hawaii Manoa where surf is king.

Ooh that is so cool!!!!How about windsurfing? Any school?

My sister-in-law's son played water polo at Pepperdine.

Stanford and santa clara wouldn't really be considered surfing schools. The bay area certainly has a lot of wind surfers on theat go out into the bay, but those colleges aren't known for having a lot of traditional surfers. carolyn provided a great list of the colleges known for great having great surf spots around them.
