Top schools for theater in NYC

I want to know what schools (besides NYU) in NYC have good theater programs. This would really help me out.

Unless you are looking to stay in NY for in state tution or something like that, there really is no reason to stay in new york for a theater program. Sure tisch is great, but VERY competetive. i dont know if you are looking for straight drama or musical theater or something else, but i suggest you look at the CMU department and the BU department. both are very good with a VERY good reputation in the broadway casting arena. but keep in mind, any good theater program is going to be very tough to get into, and you have to make sure you have the mindset to keep at it. i am going into my senior year of hs and do all the theater prosuctions at my school and i love it, and planned on drama at BU. but as time and HS went on, i found that even though i love acting so much, i dont really have to passion to keep at it with all the competition. so keep that in mind before you start auditioning for schools.

Good Luck!

Juilliard (ten char)

Outside of NYC - but in New York State, you could consider: Syracuse, Ithaca, Sarah Lawrence, Hofstra, SUNY Purchase. They are each different, so you could take a look at their websites and/or do campus visits to see if any of them suited you.

don’t know if you are a boy or a girl, but if a girl, consider Barnard. Lauren Graham (Gilmore Girls) transferred from Tisch to Barnard to get an academic education. If you don’t make it in show biz you should get a more general education.
