Top Ten- Wake Forest Application 2019

Hi everyone I am filling out the Wake Forest Application and wanted to start a discussion of everyone’s top ten list. Also if people want they could answer the “what piques your curiosity” question. I just wanted to get an idea of the accepted students answers.

I think people are hesitant to post their ideas for fear of someone copying them and sounding less original. I can tell you that my son’s list was a list that only he could make, but other lists that I heard of were not necessarily so unique, but meaningful to them. If you’re a funny person I also wouldn’t hesitate to make it amusing, being careful to be tasteful of course. Good luck!

Honestly, I think you are best off just making a list that you want to make. That will be the best one. That way the reps who read your application will get to know you, and that’s what they are after. And here’s one way to look at it. Say, you just say this is what I want to do and you do that. Basically, two results: they love it and it contributes in a positive way to your application. They don’t love it, and it contributes in a negative way. I’d argue both results are fine. If you are a good fit, that’s great. If they are looking for someone different, you’ll be better off somewhere else. I mean, would you want to come up something that admissions love but is not authentic to you, and you end up going to a place that’s not a good fit? Being authentic to ourselves is really important to joy and success in our pursuits. That applies to lots more things than college, and understanding it can make the rejections and failures that everyone faces more understandable and endurable. Good luck!

Just be yourself with the list and all other items. They’re not looking for something academic or funny or anything. They are looking for you, what makes you tick.

Absolutely go with a list that reveals your personality and who you are, not something you think they want to hear. It’s just a creative way to learn more about you and what is meaningful to you. A list that is very unique but communicates things that are important to you will make the experience more enjoyable for you and the reader.

My D received a deferral today for RD. Does WF truly accept any deferrals from the RD pool?

Deferrals just feel like a big blah. And are very disappointing. It’s hard to say how many deferred students Wake will end up taking. A lot depends on the number and strength of the RD application pool. Students do get accepted after a deferral though. One of mine was deferred to a similarly ranked national university and was then accepted in the end.

Just take it that you have an application in at a school. It’s very early, so she has lots of time to get in some EA applications, and maybe an ED application if there is another school where she is equally interested.

Hopefully Wake will work out in the end. Until then, just take it as an opportunity to explore some other cool schools.

Good luck!

My son was deferred in the ED round at Wake and ended up getting in RD. There’s still hope!
