HS sophomore d, 4.0GPA in all honors/AP courses, PSATs high 600s (hasn't taken SATs yet), five years of theater experience and now doing auditions in NYC on a routine basis. Not going to bore you with list of accomplishments/academic awards, etc. Her college of choice thus far has been Pomona (NOT known for arts), but wants to major in theater and (hopefully!) minor in something that keeps her options open for Plan B. Our list of suggestions include:

Yale
Columbia
NYU-Tisch

Any others, particularly on the west coast?

This current thread should be helpful. Read through the whole thing; it was bumped up recently and there is alot of interesting information for you.

I recommend Emerson. It’s a school for Communications and the Arts. They offer acting and musical theatre majors and if she’s interested in experimenting with acting for film or television they have opportunities for that. They have study abroad programs in LA and the Netherlands which offer a few acting courses. It might not be up to the caliber that you want but it is s great school.

Check out Northwestern. There’s a CC member with a screename atmc; her daughter turned down Yale for Northwestern because of the theater program. You may want to PM her.

I wouldn’t recommend Yale College for a serious performer. There is an undergraduate program in theatre, but it’s highly academic, and not performance-oriented. Yale School of Drama is an entirely different creature. Or, at least, that’s how it was a generation ago.
