So I know this has been said and done before, but I want a clarifier. Which schools are the "top tier" boarding schools in terms of academic achievement/college matriculation?
I've heard different groups of schools as well as different acronyms so any input would be appreciated.

The best choice is a school that supports the needs, interests, values and personal preferences of a student and their family. There are the more prestigious schools - the HADES (Hotchkiss, Andover, Deerfield, Exeter, and SPS) and the GLADCHEMMS (Groton, Lawrenceville, Andover, Deerfield, Choate, Hotchkiss, Exeter, Milton, Middlesex, and SPS), but this prestige doesn’t, by any means, make them superior to other schools. You ask which schools are in the top tier based on academic achievement and college matriculation – but this can differ from year to year based on the graduating class. Generally speaking, the above mentioned schools tend to maintain a high average on standardized test scores and in matriculation into the IVY league. HOWEVER, this doesn’t mean that going to a lesser-known school would decrease your chances of having a high test scores and gaining admission into good colleges. A school is only as good as its students! Hope this helps :)

Well said!!

preplife - most of the top 60-70 schools (and maybe more) will do a fantastic job of preparing you to be the best you can be after four years and increasing your chances to attend a top notch college or University. The biggest mistake kids make on this site (and a lot of parents) is to allow themselves to be influenced by idiot-terms like HADES, catnip for the ego, but poison for open-mindedness, which is necessary to make decisions that are right for both head and heart. Look through these schools without prejudice or preconditions: [Boarding Schools with the Lowest Acceptance Rates - Boarding School Review](Most Selective Boarding Schools (2023))

preplife,

Keep an open mind about prep school alternatives. But don’t buy the egalitarian myth that all prep schools are equal. Andover, Exeter, and SPS are to prep schools what Harvard, Yale, and Princeton are to colleges. Their prestige neither rules in nor rules out the possibility that you are good fit for them.
