Top UC for IR?

I'm 99% sure I will be transfering to a UC. I can't really afford a private college, and my 3.5 GPA won't get me a sufficient scholarship. With the transfer agreement that CC's and UC's have in CA, my counselor told me I'm able to get into most. He could not really narrow down a college for me, however.

I understand that UC Davis is the only UC with an IR major, the rest have it as a concentration of Political Science. My question is, would Davis be the best choice for me, or would a higher ranked school, like UCSD be a better option even though it's not a dedicated major?

I'm interested more in the diplomacy and foreign affairs aspect of IR/PS rather than domestic policy.

Thanks all!

if you’re looking for asia IR, UCSD has a top programme

Does that include the middle east?

no, primarily pacific rim.

if you’re looking for the middle east, you prolly need to look out of the UC system

So I basically have no choice but to go private if I want a decent IR degree? It’s not likely that I can go that route.

um, for middle east?

it’s possible.

unfortunately, there is no allocating force for where IR concentrations are to make sure there is a convenient and affordable option for everyone.

Berkley or UCLA might have something, but i don’t know.
