Do you all agree with this list of top Texas universities?? 1. Rice University 2. University of Texas 3. Texas A&M University 4. Southern Methodist University 5. Baylor University

I would maybe at TCU to the mix.

Which UT? There are a ton

With UT and A&M I mean the main campuses in Austin and College Station

The state flagships is what they are referring to. Why is Southwestern not in there?

UT Austin definitely beats Rice for business and several fields in engineering. A&M comes out on top if you’re looking at agricultural engineering or similar fields.

It’s misleading to rank these colleges as a whole because each of them is good at a specific set of fields- I got into both Rice and UT for EE and while I ended up choosing neither of the two, UT definitely would’ve come out on top because Rice isn’t that solid at EE. Additionally, if you’re more into industry work/internships, UT is better suited for you than Rice- while Rice comes out on top if you’re looking for a school that pushes research.

I just don’t think making this list outside a narrow context is a good idea. I hope no one’s using it to guide their college search.

I was just asking for people’s opinion on the rankings in general. US News and World Report ranks Rice University higher than UT. I understand that in some fields of study UT is better than Rice and vice versa. I am by no means saying that people should base their college search on my opinion. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Thanks for your info and comment

Yes, I’m aware of what you were doing. I was just explaining why I believe that’s almost pointless.

What school did you end up attending?

Carnegie Mellon for ECE. I mean, who would turn down one of the big four computer schools?

Yeah, that’s pretty cool that you go there. Pittsburgh area right?

Yep. Weather’s the only thing that makes me question my decision. And food- best burger joint they have around is Five Guys and Primanti’s apparently a really greasy mess.

Lol, I’ve been to Black Beards Restaurant on South Padre Island. Great Burgers! It was ranked by USA Today as one of the best burger joints in the USA. Plus great weather being on the Gulf Coast.

Rice

Trinity

UT / A&M
4 SMU
5 Baylor / Austin College / Southwestern / TCU

Not a fan of rankings since so much depends on the student and major. Don’t worry about the rankings but worry about which school fits you.

Black Beards at SPI is top ranked?! Wow! I think 5 Guys blows it away. Daddy’s used to be the best place at SPI. As for the topic of the post all the schools listed are good schools, like previously stated it would depend on your major.

I’ve never been to 5 Guys. Quite a few people have told me it’s good. I’ve been to the Island many times and never heard of Daddy’s. Is it a burger joint/bar or a seafood restaurant?

Daddy’s is a cajun restaurant. They recently moved to a new(er) location & it quite hasn’t been the same. Still better than any other cajun joint in the RGV, but not as good as before. The food is still good, but the ambiance is just not the same. Check it out, though. I used to eat at Blackbeards every time I visited the island, but after Daddy’s I haven’t been back. I think once since I discovered Daddy’s.

I definitely think UH should be thrown into the mix. Its business, engineering, and writing programs are pretty top notch (and also their HRM program, but that’s not a common program at all). Also, it has nothing but improve dramatically in the past few years, while others, some could argue, have stagnated a bit.

My ranking:

Rice
UT
A&M
Baylor
UH
SMU/Trinity
