I'm kinda confused about this. There are some LACs that I really like and would prefer applying to instead of many top universities, but I'm under the impression that for LACs that seem to take a decent percentage

for example Swarthmore which has a/b 26% transfer rate

...the people accepted are generally from ivies or top universities. On the other hand, since more spots are available at most top universities, they are more accepting of CC/lower college students. So, in fact, top universities with lower transfer rates (i.e. Harvard 9%) would be a more practical choice for a CC student than Swarthmore, even though it has a considerably higher transfer rate.

Your thoughts?

brand! you analyze everything too much!! just pick the one that you think u will feel most happy in!! thats my thought

mojojo - help me choose! can't you tell that's what I'm doing. And I'll continue to analyze until I'm accepted. Any ideas...

For a final reach, I really like Bowdoin, but figure they only take mainly ivy league transfers and the like, so think it may just be better not to apply or to apply to Cornell/Harvard.

Bowdoin is a great school, my friend goes there and she loves it, she got a full scholarship and they pay for her flights; In cornell, you are going to owe so much money, and Bowdoin is just as prestigious as an IVY, if you consider the rankings, i believe bowdoin is #6 for LAC, which is above cornell which is #13 i believe in the university section. Also, bowdoin has smaller classes, great food; while @ cornell, i've heard that classes are packed and that its hard to find a class cuz everything gets impacted and also cornell is pretty big (15 thousand kids) ive heard.

AND NO, THEY DONT TAKE IVY LEAGUE STUDENTS, THEY TAKE CC, MY FRIEND TOLD ME!

BASICALLY IT COMES DOWN TO PREFERENCE, NOT WHETHER ITS PRESTIGIOUS OR NOT CUZ BOWDOIN RANKS HIGHER IN ITS CATEGORY :P

thank you mojojo I will take your advice and make Bowdoin my final school choice.
