<p>I played a musical instrument for around 10 years... but I haven't won any major awards really so is it even worth writing about for the EC essay? Would it be better to write about something else like a leadership position in a club (member for 4 years, but leadership for only 1-2 years)?</p>
<p>Write about what you think is most significant to you-- so if you are passionate about playing an instrument, then you should write about that if you can flesh it out into a good sized essay (with minimal fillers). Since you have not competed in any major competitions for it, you’d have to find some other memorable event involving you playing the instrument.
Same thing for the leadership position; choose something memorable or important, the best essays tell a story about an important moment in your life as if the adcoms were there witnessing it. It is much more personal and vivid than talking about your experiences in you club or playing music in general.</p>
