<p>bart, you are at absolutely no disadvantage if you choose your own topic. I usually advise students not to think about making their essays fit any particular prompt. Write something that is entertaining, personal, specific and lets us know something about you.</p>
<p>Chances are that it will fit one of the Common App prompts anyway. If not, just check “topic of your choice.”</p>
