torn between computers

Well after my first laptop completely crashed, I've decided that I'm buying a Mac. I'm going to buy it tomorrow, however I'm torn between two computers:

iMac G5 (desktop)
iBook 14"
(both are $1,199 with student discount)

The speed and memory are the plus on the iMac and the portability is the plus on the iBook. Can any of you give me some feedback? Thanks.

bumpity bump bump
Please... I'm going to buy it tomorrow!!

Well, I'm not so sure what I would do in your situation. If you take notes in class, then it is an easy choice: the Ibook. If you just use the computer for papers and surfing the net, it is probably a good bet to go with the IMac.

I'd choose the laptop because of the portability as well as the fact that it can do anything a desktop can.

Just my 2 cents. Btw, great choice on going for a Mac. I can't wait to get rid of my PC's and get my Powerbook for college.

Do you have any specs for the two?

Laptop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Laptop!! Lets say you go to a study group...you can bring your computer with all the information you have. Very handy. Or you take it to class and wont have to worry about losing your notes. Also, laptops save lots and lots of space of the ever so small desks.

undeniably...the LAPTOP!

Yea.. I definitely think I am going to end up with the laptop for the sole fact that it is portable. I didn't really remove my other laptop from my desk except to work on my bed a few times so the portability issue didn't seem like a big deal to me. Knowing me however, I know I'll regret later not having something that is portable.

go with the iBook

I've taken my powerbook to the lounge a few times in my dorm, but not to the library or class yet... but I know I have the option too.

yeah definitely get the laptop. I have a desktop in storage but bought a laptop for my year abroad...now after having it, i wish I didnt have the desktop.
