Okay so I've applied EA at both ND and UChicago. I'm interested in studying economics and math and then going on to grad school for business or getting a good job in business. I love both schools for different reasons- I'm a legacy at ND and have always just loved the school. I visited my cousins earlier this year and had tons of fun and met lots of really cool people. However, Chicago is pretty cool too- I love the city of Chicago and the school is really well known for its economics. I'm also a legacy at Chicago so I have that attachment too. Soo basically I'm trying to decide which would be a better fit if I want to get into a top MBA program or get a good job in business- economics at ND or Chicago?
I am SO TORN between these schools & any advice would be appreciated!!

As biased as I am towards Notre Dame, I would say to go for Chicago…the location is prime for business opportunities, so networking and finding internships would be so much easier. I love Notre Dame’s campus, but outside of it - there isn’t too much. Put yourself in the situation to find more research and work opportunities - UChicago.

Undergrad at ND. Summer internships in Chicago. Graduate school at UChicago. Win-win-win.

You’d be amazed by how many people plan this. Very few get away with it, because Chicago is such a hard graduate school to get into.

To the OP: Why don’t you apply to both and see where you get in? Chicago’s admissions this year will probably be somewhat of a crapshoot because of such a significant rise in applications.

Thanks for the advice!
I have applied at both and I should be hearing back from both within a week or so…
I’m pretty sure that I’ll get into ND, but yeah Chicago is definitely a crapshoot. Maybe I wont even have to make a decision haha.
My original plan was ND undergrad and Chicago grad but yeah it’s super hard to get into the Chicago business school, and if I did undergrad at Chicago there’s some program that will automatically get you into the business school. I know that Chicago would have some awesome internships in the business world so I guess I’m trying to compare those internship opportunities to opportunities from the ND alumni network? Ugh this is the worst decision because I love both schools!

As an ND student, I would say if you get in both, go to Chicago, if you are doing econ. As great as ND is, it can’t really compare to UC in econ. I am a current econ major here. The program is great, but UC’s is second to none.

Clock26- thanks for the reply! Another quick question about econ at ND- what kind of jobs are people getting with an econ major from ND // Would it be hard to get a double major in Math and Econ?

our D ended up with these 2 schools as her top picks 1 year ago. i would suggest a couple things:

the decison does not need to be made until may 1st. ease back some.

are you planing on going on to grad school ?? if so, this alters the decision.

insofar as school-life experiences go for an undergrad, these are very different institutions. go and spend as much time as you can at each. they are only 75 minutes apart, so you can literally do it on the same day.

in the end, our D decided that since she plans to attend grad schol right away, she opted for the dream-like setting of the ND undergrad experience for now. she is very happy with that choice. beyond happy. to my eye as a parent, it appeared to me that both schools have similar populations of wonderful young people in their student bodies - but i also think if you really go to each, and put a mind to the character of the undergrad experience you will see they are quite different. best of luc to you in deciding which one will fit you best.

Thanks for the advice bitti1.
I’ve visited ND and I did love it, so I guess I’ll have to visit Chicago and see how I like that. I went for an informational day and loved it, but I havent actually stayed overnight or anything.

If you want the full college experience, go to ND. U of Chicago’s motto I heard is “the place where fun comes to die”

son got accepted to both chicago and notre dame… probably will attend chicago…

I am in this exact same situation. For me, it will come down to wherever gives the best aid.
