CHP'ers, I'm wondering if you could help me decide where I will go for college. Currently, I've been accepted to UCI + CHP + Regents and USC, my dream school. Now, I wasn't really planning to go to UCI because I intended it as my safety, but after visiting for their Honors Experience Day last weekend, the CHP program seems to give a ton of opportunities. If I were to go to USC, I would be just the average student, while at UCI, I'll be at the top with CHP.

Can anyone help me decide where to go and can current CHP'ers tell me of their experiences and what schools they denied for Irvine? Thanks!

We are on the same boat. I got UCI + CHP + Chancellor. USC just offers me CAS honor program (no scholarship). $45K/year is a lot of money. I will take UCI.

Do you have any plans for after undergraduate studies? If you're headed off in the medical school direction, I would advise to just take up the Irvine offer. Carrying $150k in debt after a USC education will make medical school nearly impossible. Even with other majors that require some form of higher education such as law and business, Irvine's offer is very enticing.

The big question is are u intending to go to grad school? If you are, UCI is the obvious choice. With honors and a scholarship, ull be paying little, learning alot, and have access to alot of opportunities (especially being a big fish). You will not have the prestigious name of "USC" but if ur intending to go to grad school UCI is a very smart (financially and academically) choice. However, if ur not planning to go to grad school, you might be able to get more connections/network with more people.

I just wanted to say I agree with the financial notions above, but I wanted to add a little side note. The CHP program here will offer you a lot of competition and challenges so both UCI and USC will offer you competition. I've been taking a few math classes with CHP students since I'm three levels ahead of the average freshman and they seem really motivated to learn. The CHP students here are definitely bright. However, if USC is truly your dream school and you believe you will perform better being at USC, then you might want to take it. Med school is really competitive and notoriously number based so you need to be at your best to continue with your dreams in a productive manner.
