collegeconf17: 32 credits max from AP to fulfill electives.
phobos: Please correct me if I'm wrong.

oh thats cool dude if i pass everything this year itll be all 32

BTW does the Thematic Option progrm effect this at all? I was not invited but it seems interesting and i will probably apply

relative to other schools, including the UCs, USC actively promotes minoring and double majoring.

i can't speak for UCLA but i can for USC...except for engineering, as far as the GEs go, the AP tests count for the same requirements regardless of major. there are 6 required GE "categories" and you take one course from each. you can test out of many categories with a 4 or 5 on the AP...
Cat I: AP Euro Hist or AP Art Hist
Cat III: AP Bio, AP Chem, or any AP Physics

you can test out of further requirements specific to your major...i'd imagine in Bio you might have to take at least one math class, so maybe AP Calc will test you out of that, and so on. i tested out of a total of 12 units with APs, 3/4s of a semester's worth in classes that would have had to take at USC. i also had 32 elective units, but that doesn't mean anything because as an electrical engineer, i don't have any elective courses to begin with. i couldn't say how many elective units other majors have though.

and to be sure, UCLA isn't technically harder to get into (and that shouldn't give you the impression that it's more rigorous for it alone). last year UCLA and USC accepted the same percentage of students (27%), and USC's acceptance has been getting more and more competitive every year for about the last decade. if anything, USC probably accepted a smaller percentage of students than UCLA this year.

Check this out about the UC schools:

USC's standards are constantly on the rise too, so aren't both of the schools just as competitive?

*Would someone find out if Bio majors have elective credits to fulfill? What about English majors?

*What do double majors/minors do w/ elective credits?
