I was rejected from all my top schools but admitted to my safety schools (yes which is good and i'm very thankful) however im faced with a tough decision of choosing: University of Washington or Michigan State (James Madison)

I live in Washington so i would be paying in state tuition for UW but I am compelled to MSU because of James Madison?

I'm also planning to visit MSU in the next couple weeks hopefully to help me in my decision but could anyone help me or give me some advice?

I think your better off going with the University of Washington. I don’t think the James Madison is really worth they OOS tuition. UW has a VERY good pre-law program is that is what your interested in doing. It also have a great law school! UW has much more prestige then MSU. The campus is gorgeous (as I’m sure you know) and they also have some good sport teams!

I’m not really trying to put down MSU but I just think UW is a MUCH better school academically. Plus it’ll be so much cheaper!

I would attend Michigan State University, though your a resident of Washington. Clearly you should be able to get in state tuition at a well respected university. So as a resident of Washington, considering financial situation isn’t so flexible… University of Washington isn’t a bad choice. Though paying out of state tuition at Michigan State University, I’m sure is well worth the money for the education/ academics and the spartan experience.

I disagree with tilohnine to some extent. UW is a better academic school overall, yes. But MUCH better, I’m not so sure. Much more affordable? Most definitely. But James Madison is one of the most highly regraded undergrad programs in the country. Money aside (will that be a big issue?), JMC is the place to be. I know a number of people that are graduating this year and are moving to DC to get state department/intelligence/other very solid jobs. Plus, I don’t know what UW’s study abroad program is like, but a lot of my friends have studied in Africa, the Middle East, etc, and got some amazing experience with on the IR side of things. MSU’s study abroad is among the best, if not THE best, in the country. If that’s not your cup of tea, and you’re looking to go pre law, then perhaps there isn’t as much of advantage to JMC over UW.

On a side note that probably doesn’t really matter, UW athletics isn’t at the same level as MSU. Their football team is atrocious, and nothing beats Spartan basketball. Final Four this weekend!!
