Torn with the Scandal

I actually saw my Guidance Counselor Today. He was quite impressed with the email.

andybatts, does he still hold a grudge against PSU/still doesn’t think you should go there?

Pens- No he didn’t, which I was happy about. He seemed genuinely pleased about it, and said he was shocked. He said it would be something if I went and helped change the name.

Your GC shouldn’t have said that. Penn State is still a great school. I think scandals like the Sandusky scandal happen more often than we know. Penn State is certainly not the only school where that can happen. I would definitely still consider and apply if you really want to.

I was rooting for Joe Pa all the way through the scandal!!

<<he said="" it="" would="" be="" something="" if="" i="" went="" and="" helped="" change="" the="" name.="">></he>

Your guidance counselor sounds like an interesting man.

He’s young and only been at the school two years… He’s interesting to say the least.

Ah, youth. That explains it! :)

Yeah, but at least he doesn’t seem opposed to the idea now!

What he doesn’t realize is that we don’t need to “change the name”. We need to uphold what Penn State always was and still is.

Exactly. He still believes the school is tarnished and even said so yesterday.

Certainly many people share his opinion. Oh, well. Brooding about it is a waste of time.

Hey everyone, I’m on my way to Penn State as I write this for the accepted Smeal students day, which is tomorrow. Today my family and I will be driving/walking around downtown to check everything out and tomorrow will be the official visit on campus.

This will be my first time at PSU since the Iowa game in the Fall, and for the first time post- scandal. I’ll be sure to let you guys know how the visit goes and give you a description of the students, vibe, the business school itself, etc. This is a huge visit for me; if it goes well then I will likely be attending next year.

Thank you pens. Great idea. I’m visiting the 23rd and hope to get a good vibe.

Have a great visit - it is sure to be a great time, especially because of the energy surrounding THON which is this coming weekend.

If THON can’t convince you to go to PSU, I don’t think anything will! lol.

I wish I could go to THON. Oh well if I go I’ll be there next year.

We are visiting our daughter this weekend (she is a sophomore and is involved with THON), and bringing our younger daughter who will be attending PSU this summer and fall and we couldn’t be more excited. To see these students put all of their heart and soul into raising money and helping to take care of the families - I’ve been told it is an amazing experience. Just one of the many wonderful things about PSU!

My dad is a Penn State alumni and always tells me that his years at Penn State were the best years of his life (besides raising me lol). My dad was devastated that one of his heros, joe paterno, was involved in this scandal. Even though this event has occurred, Penn State is one of the best colleges out there and holds many dear memories to many present, past, or future students. Do not let one horrid person have power by ruining a fabulous school! I know I plan to apply next year and to continue where my dad left off there by having the best time of my life!

WE ARE PENN STATE!

Pens wrote about their tour in another thread if you guys want to read it. I’m going next week and I’ll post here how it goes.

My tour was great today. Amazing experience. Looks like I’m leaning to one school…
