I've always thought Toronto and McGill are together the best universities in Canada, but according to these rankings, which are based on entering averages, Toronto seems to be only #14 in Canada, even after some not so good universities. Can someone explain? I am still thinking seriously about Toronto. Here is the rankings I am talking about: http://www.univforum.com/canadian-universities/viewtopic.php?t=1296

I believe that is ranked by selectivity.

Even if those average entering grades are true, which I doubt, that is hardly the basis on which to determine how good a school is. U of T is widely held, in many communities across the country - academic, legal, medical, literary- to be the top Canadian university. Have a look at factors such as course offerings, student/teacher ratio, faculty bios, library system, retention and graduation rates, grad and professional school placement, endowment, etc.

I can't help but wonder what sort of an affect the other two campuses of UofT might have had (Mississauga and Scarborough) on the rankings, as they are known to be much less selective than the main downtown St. George campus.
