What are the consequences of torrenting of college, especially Penn? I am not going to torrent. This is just for curiosity's sake/

When you are on a college campus and you connect to the school’s internet network, usually they have some sort of system that scans for illegally downloaded stuff as soon as you connect. The RIAA has been working with universities to try to cut down on pirating. I believe half a dozen or so students during my freshmen year were sued, and they ended up settling and paying $750/song.

There are other wireless networks that are unsecured and equally fast. Don’t be stupid. Just use the Starbucks network. The worst I’ve heard this year is a warning letter.

thats what I was thinking. I will probably just go to Starbucks and download my music

Yeah I was using other means to get music but got lazy/cocky and started downloading off of airpennnet again. I got a warning email that’s it, I doubt they would’ve done more but I didn’t want to chance it.
