I just came across this:
[Costs & Finances - Office of Undergraduate Admission - Boston College](http://www.bc.edu/admission/undergrad/international/costsandfinances.html)

Is this a joke? I believe the estimated COA last year was 55K? How the hell did it jump up my ten thousand dollars?

It appears that tuition/fees only increased $1700 from last year. R&B is roughly the same as last year.

The differences in the International budget page vs. the domestic page is the inclusion of books & supplies ($2k); personal expenses, which includes travel ($4500); and Mass medical insurance ($2100). Most students pay those items out of pocket (or waive medical because they are covered on their parents’ plan). However, an international has to show funding for all costs prior to obtaining a visa and budget accordingly.

http://www.bc.edu/content/bc/admission/undergrad/costs.html

Oh whoops. Didn’t realize that was the international page, my bad.

But room and board is still on the high side - at least by comparison to non-urban non-NE campuses. Compare to some of the LAC in the southeast (e.g. Davidson) and its about $5k less expensive. I guess that’s what you pay for being able to play in Boston.

Well, sure. Paying off the City of Boston for approvals/permits is expensive. So is RomneyCare and other required employee benefits, as is paying a “living wage”.

btw: Davidson R&B is ~$11,400. BC is $12k. Stanford R&B is $12.7k. Not much difference out of a $60k budget. At BC, one can around on public transport…can one do the same at Davidson?

You’re right about the housing cost. The difference is in the tuition - about $3,000. And you’re right about the relative costs of living between MA and NC.
