What is the total cost of a UC for all 4 years? Srs.
I go to different websites and all of them have different prices.
For example one had 30k as the annual price for all UCs.

Is it $31,584?
I know I know...I sound like a noob.

MY 4 years here will cost me roughly 90K. I’m an instate student.

MY breakdown is something like this

~45K tuition,

~35K housing,

~10K for books, food, and travel/miscellaneous expenses. (@avg 200/LD semester and 400/UD semester, @avg 100/month on groceries, and @avg 400/semester, respectively.)

90k!?
Please tell me you’re out of state.

er…I think out of state would probably be a little less than 3x of that?

You know the funny part is that’s how much tuition costs now. There’s already talks of raising it 81% by 2016.

I’m gonna give up on college man.
It’s just too much.

Raising the tuition ever more??? Like hell they will They better not!

I’m out of state and the amount it’s gonna cost me is HILARIOUSLY HIGH. Just putting it out there. Just the tuition for one year is about 50k. That doesn’t even include the dorms, extra fees like SHIP, books, supplies, stuff you need for your dorm, food, etc. Thank god I talked to my fin aid counselor and got a really good package for my student status situation. But still. It’s really high.

I’m OOS and predicting it’ll cost me ~200k to attend with tuition increases, housing etc. Crowslayer how do you only spend $100 a month on groceries (If I’m reading that right!?) Total food I spend at least $250 a month. Interesting side note, I’m withdrawing for a sem to study abroad with a program that will be cheaper than attending Cal.

Are you guys not afraid of what awaits you in the future?

@mkapur: It’s not that hard. I probably spend around 120$ a month for groceries. After awhile you learn what and when to buy certain things. Also you should try to avoid horribly over priced places like Walgreens.

@mkapur, one word: Costco. I bought $30 worth of porkchops last month and i am barfing porkchops left and right cuz that’s all i was making for like 2 weeks straight. it’s a miserable existence. ■■■ so hard. never eating porkchops ever again. last semester buying chicken was always a good deal since there’s just so much you can make with it.

so do you all think that the off-campus published estimate for r&b is correct at about $10,000 per year in berkeley? my daughter is seriously considering the school and the housing stuff seems very expensive…

thoughts?

chris

^ off-campus r&b could be lower (like say 8K even) if she finds roommates and finds a decent apartment.

[Berkeley Student Cooperative](http://www.bsc.coop) room and board cost is $3,411 per semester, or $6,822 per year for 2011-2012.

ucbalumnus thanks for the above info! i looked at the site and it says that there is room for 1200 students. is the application competitve? it looks like certain links at the site have been hijacked…

Fall 2011 waiting list information is here:

[BSC Fall 2011 waiting list](http://berkeleystudentcooperative.org/component/content/article/25/149-waiting-list-main)

Waiting list position is determined by co-op seniority points (including fractional points for board-only or summer room and/or board); among zero point prospective new members, there are some preference items like EOP, DSP, and those who have lived in another NASCO co-op. Within each category, earliest application has higher priority (so apply now if you have any interest in living in the BSC in any future semester). See [BSC FAQs](http://berkeleystudentcooperative.org/faqs/670-academic-year-faqs) .

Note that even if you reach the top of the waiting list, if you do not specify any houses with open spaces, you will continue to wait until a space opens, or you change your house list to include one with open spaces. Historically, it has generally been easier for women than men to get into the BSC, and the easiest houses to get into have been Casa Zimbabwe, Cloyne, Hoyt, Sherman, and Wilde.

i’m curious if you know of athletes who live in the BSC houses?

Are all UC’s the same price?
