I've been seeing a lot of $11,000 for oos students. Is that it or are you getting more from the SSA applications? We are looking at IU for my daughter and need to know what ballpark she'd be in.

She's got a fantastic resume, great grades and test scores.

She will more than likely apply for the Wells Scholarship but that's a long shot.

Can anyone please chime in on additional monies they received on top of their $11,000 oos state money? Did they get a Hutton Honor's award, National Merit, etc. She's considering Business and possibly pre-med as well.

Just wondering if IU can give her enough to make it worthwhile out of state. She won't be eligible for any need based monies.

We got 11k and from what I’ve been reading it sounds like the most we might get is a couple K through the SSA.
At this point it looks like OOS costs would be 32K, which is more than we are hoping to pay, especially since we have a really good in state option and another OOS offering much more money.

The SSA merit money has not been awarded yet for this year. We should hear of those awards in the next couple weeks. Others may chime in on what they have received in past years, but if you are looking for the most current information to go on, then check back soon.

For OOS students, the financial gap is tough to bridge. I believe that USC will offer NMS half tuition. Duke’s Robertson scholars are offered full ride scholarship which is extremely difficult to get. If your D wins state competition (individual or small team), she has a very good chance to be selected by the Wells scholar committee for interview. But, the outcome is not predictable either. Besides that, IU does offers $1000 for NMF in addition to any company’s awards your D may get.

Paying OOS tuition to attend a public premed program is a big no-no. I don’t know your D’s EFC. In some cases, your D may pay less going to a top private college. You can go to the following forum to review the discussions.

What state competition are you talking about winning for the Wells scholar interview? I was wondering about the Wells scholars, which I know is a HUGE long shot. Is is to her advantage that we live in a state that doesn’t send many to IU? She would be the first in her HS to apply for a Wells scholarship.

We are not going to allow her to attend a school where the cost is more than what she could go to in state. We are lucky and live in a state which is very generous with their merit money.

This is why I was asking about what others are receiving on top of the $11K OOS award.

We are not going to qualify for any need based monies.

IU is pretty big on diversity. I don’t think that it will change in the foreseeable future.

The credentials of last year’s scholars can be reviewed below. Some of the more impressive scholars chose to go somewhere else. But, I am sure that IU have quite a few top students who have comparable credentials.

Since it looks like awards are trickling in now, can anyone else chime in what they were given? Specifically I’m looking at OOS awards and basic stats (test scores, GPA etc) Thank you!

Originally my son got 11k and Kelley direct admit/honors, as OOS student. He got nothing additional through ssa. Close to 4.0 Weighted GPA and 1400 M/CR sat.

This was last year - direct Kelley admit $11k oos plus $2k Hutton honors. Stats: 33 ACT, top 5% hs class 3.9 uw, 4.5 w…very good EC’s…kids w/similar stats this year have the $11k award so far but haven’t heard about additional money yet.
