Not much else... i feel so unspecial being compared to all you fantastic folks... please respond with my chances. itd be really deeply appreciated. And for my school's statistic: Apply: 118 Admit: 31 Avg GPA accepted: 3.78 Avg SAT score accepted: 2144 (yeah, i know i look really uncompetitive)

Cal has always been my dream school and i have the greatest passion to go to this school and i will definitely appeal if i dont get accepted. Please give me a hard honest truth about my chances >_< can't wait until the actual decision date!!!

I was rejected to UCLA and UCSD... i dont know a single person who got rejected to both and got in UC Berkeley. My morale is low as heck. Please chance me or give me some words of advice.

This just shows how much of an absolute joke UC admissions is . . . . they overemphasis GPA without taking into consideration the difficulty of the school . . . I guess the best shot for a middle school student to get into top UCs is to go to some hood ass high school and get an easy 4.0, while bombing any standardized test you attempt.

Same here. Holding out hope for UCB or UCD, but my confidence has been completely and utterly destroyed by UCSD and UCLA… I think I’m in just about the same boat as everyone here. 3.6 uw GPA and 2230 SAT.

Anyone know if this means I might as well give up hope on private unis as well now? If I can’t even get into UCSD, what private would accept me? /:

Asiantrumpter, don’t lose hope. Two years ago, I was denied from UCLA, UCSD, & UCD, but accepted to Cal. Don’t give up on yourself. You can PM me if you want to talk about your situation.

Oh my… I know how bad you all must be feeling but hang in there. As far as admission to the private universities go, it depends on the university. If you’re talking Ivy League, the admissions there are just as tough. If you are talking other privates, you definitely have a chance. The UC’s are very competitive because they do receive so many applications. It’s hard not to be bitter when you see some of the kids with lower stats get in. I try to think of it this way…we don’t have access to entire applications. All we see are numbers and we can’t just judge by those. Every application is unique and I am sure the UC’s are doing their best. You will all go to college. You will all end up somewhere you will be happy. You may go to a JC. Who knows? Go out and prove them wrong for denying you. :-)

Thank you GoBears.
I was rejected by UCLA and UCSD with a 2340 (800, 800, 740). 3.9 UW and 4.2+ weighted, great ECS, lots of APs and while that makes so little sense it stings like crazy if I get in to Cal I could not care less.

It’s okay. My roommate here at Cal was rejected by San Diego State and still ended up getting into Berkeley. I’m not kidding. College admissions are very strange.

The issue is that you are male applying to Engineering schools, and that the Regents/Legislature have decided that accepting rich OOS kids is more important than folks such as yourself. The ultimate fall back is to cash in those APs, attend a community college for a year – including this summer – and apply for a transfer to Cal.

I hope you get in. My stats were way too worse than yours and so were EC’s, and here am I… Honestly, I wish more people like you were accepted, it would make this school so much better. However, I also believe that it might not be a bad idea to go to perhaps a lower-tier UC and get that fantastic GPA and research opportunities or whatever and be a star there. Afterall, there is a smaller difference between colleges than people would like to admit…

lol I’m JUST KIDDING (although there aren’t). as everyone has said, keep faith because you may be the miracle(s) and you’ll be the happiest person in the world. This year sounds so harsh in admissions reading all these threads of admissions decisions…or that much more random. Because we all know UC admissions are random.

I think I big factor in admissions to the UC’s is your ability to pay. With the budget cuts right now, my counselor told me that the UC’s would gladly take a rich 3.8/ 1800 kid over a poor 4.5/ 2300 kid. Sad…

Uh, I know that. I was just trying to say they were as tough. I should have added if not tougher. To be honest, Berkeley engineering is pretty fricken tough. Anyhow, I’ve got three kids and been through this three times. I know how tough the Ivy League is. Thanks though.

Kind of, but the UCs do not increase your chances of admission based on your financial status. Instead, they have been increasing the percentage of OOS/international students who have to pay $20K/year more. (Still, it is easier to get in as a CA resident. Average stats of accepted OOS/internationals are higher.)
